Ciel, I'm with you on your statement.  Leaders need to realize that trust is delicate, and once breached will take exponentially more time, sometimes years, to reestablish it than the few measly minutes it took to break it.

Can't say I have had any trust in the government or most authority

since I discovered I could not trust most of them not to lie to me, attempt to manipulate me, sell me false goods and falsehoods...

Without trust, respect doesn't even enter in.

Fear, yes...  Respect, not in the least.

Re:

Hi offy, thanks for reading.  While it's true that individuals are in most cases trying to do the right thing, and their particular brand of what's right might conflict with the brand of another.  Anyone in a leadership role, however, whether public or private, needs to sometimes put aside their own ideas as to what is right and wrong, and listen to the group that is petitioning them--particularly in the face of protest.  Whether or not its their intention to exacerbate a situation is beside the point.  It is the actions of leadership to which people respond, not their intentions, nor their logic.  When faced with a potential breach of trust, it's important that the people in leadership positions continue to command the respect that they want by offering it in return.

Isn't this site about communication?

I would say it depends on the level of the leaders( be they govt or something else)...Private enterprisers or public? It all depends on many things but I think we should expect that people try to do the right thing (and sometimes it doesn't seem right for one but it is for the other)...
