Re: Re: PROBLEM THERE ARE FACTS
My understanding is the overwhelming evidence supports Global Warming.  I notice that someone is likening this to David and Goliath, where David (the small number of people that deny Global Warming) are up against Goliath (the large number of scientists that conclude from their observations that Global Warming is an actual occurrence).

Well, I liken it to a courtroom, where evidence is presented.  Since the evidence overwhelmingly supports global warming, as a juror and a judge, I also agree.

Re: Corbin (by Krisles)
It's not a matter of "buying Gore's film"

It's a matter of the overwhelming evidence supporting Global Warming.

We ARE WARMING UP.  I have graphs on my blog to demonstrate this.  This is irrefutable.

And who exactly is "THE GOVERNMENT'S SCIENTIST" anyway?  We have statements from one person whose credentials are not given.  To support Global Warming we have the overwhelming majority of scientists and much data.

Maybe now you can sue National Geographic for libel or something?  Since that publication has stated firmly that Global Warming is occurring.  And way before Gore's documentary.

Excellent!  And I love reading all the comments.....it is amazing how so many people just completely buy Gore's film.....are they all that "star struck" - I mean, if all the actors agree, it's got to be real, right....because they are all such experts.  My personal opinion is....I  don't really know....the experts don't know, so how can I?  It certainly isn't worth the Noble Prize....pulleeeeze.......  My common sense seems to say that all the pollution in the air has got to upset the balance in some way....it has affected our bodies, etc.....but, Nature has a way of correcting offenses in most cases, so I'm not so sure that any changes aren't a correction we just don't recoginize.  I don't know....and that's my point....who does?

I like this law, Corbin.
Remind me, why did we sever relations with Great Britain?  These are some smart people.  Partisan politics have no place in the schoolyards.  No, partisan politics needs to be put back in its proper place -- church...

Re: Re: Re: Wow, Corbin! You picked an 800-pound gorilla to poke this time!
Oh, I knew that Pat...it was just a chance to whack a fly......

As to my view....everyone is missing the point of this post.....Gore's movie is full of inaccuracies and unsubstantiated claims....and it's treated as the gospel over here, yet a court in England steps forwards and points that out.......

It is a fact that more "Published" scientists disagree with the  pseudo-religion of Global Warming....than agree with all of the claims.

I am glad that you stop by.....careful, my views are quite infectious!

Re: Re: Wow, Corbin! You picked an 800-pound gorilla to poke this time!
Actually, I wasn't referring to Xeno... I was referring to the overwhelming tide of public opinion that the globe is warming and it's all our fault... Kinda like you're David up against an unseemly large Goliath and you may be running low on pebbles... But that's just me.  I don't agree with your view, but I do enjoy reading it -- I enjoy a well-reasoned and thoughtful debate. It would be so dull around here if everyone just nodded and clicked their tongues and agreed... Keep on keeping on!!!

Please!

So what am I to do guys? Live my life as usual, or sell everithing and start to living as our days are counted? Or learn to live under water?

I doN't think that global warning can be denied, as just in my country I can experience that temperatuere is warmer then in my cildhood. in the 80's there wer cold, sever winters. Last winter there were snow only a couple of days! No kidding.

But it's a fact, that even if Kilimanjaro is melting, and even if it's melting because global warming this phenomeon itself doesn't rpoove that there is a global warning. And that goes to Cathrina hurrican. I mean I guess there were hurricans hunderds of years ago, so how can one say that this particular hurricane was caused by global warning? Bullshit.

Ahhhhhh.....and only Xeno and his ilk can have "accurate" sources.........doesn't that claim sound a bit........"foolish"???

Listen to how your words sound......only you have the facts, anyone who might disagree does not.....so that's how you gain a consensus?   Trample on any differing view......how tribal!

THE ANTARCTIC ICE COVER IS MELTING -- IT HAS BEEN OBSERVED

posted by Xeno-x on October 10, 2007 at 6:15 AM | link to this | reply

Re: ANTARCTIC ICE COVER -- IT IS INDEED MELTING
And there is just as many....actually, more that disagree......

You do not have a consensus......you never did.

While the news focus has been on the lowest ice extent since satellite monitoring began in 1979 for the Arctic, the Southern Hemisphere (Antarctica) has quietly set a new record for most ice extent since 1979.

This can be seen on this graphic from this University of Illinois site The Cryosphere Today, which updated snow and ice extent for both hemispheres daily. The Southern Hemispheric areal coverage is the highest in the satellite record, just beating out 1995, 2001, 2005 and 2006. Since 1979, the trend has been up for the total Antarctic ice extent...

While the Antarctic Peninsula area has warmed in recent years and ice near it diminished during the Southern Hemisphere summer, the interior of Antarctica has been colder and ice elsewhere has been more extensive and longer lasting, which explains the increase in total extent. This dichotomy was shown in this World Climate Report blog posted recently with a similar tale told in this paper by Ohio State Researcher David Bromwich, who agreed “It’s hard to see a global warming signal from the mainland of Antarctica right now”.

Indeed, according the NASA GISS data, the South Pole winter (June/July/August) has cooled about 1 degree F since 1957 and the coldest year was 2004....

This winter has been an especially harsh one in the Southern Hemisphere with cold and snow records set in Australia, South America and Africa.

ANTARCTIC ICE COVER -- IT IS INDEED MELTING
The film simply transmits information from scientists who have observed the phenomenon.

What seems to be increasing, per an article referred to by writeroflight, is certain "ice rivers"  -- and usually a river increases because of increased flow of water (in this case ice) into it -- and it would be logical to assume that this increase is due to ice moving from other sources, such as melting ice sheets.

Scientists are worried in particular about a certain "ice dam" that, if it disintegrates, woiuld cease holding back the huge ice sheet behind it.

We have conclusions reached from numerous scientists in several fields.

What you have here is a truck driver suing and courts (and courts do not always make their conclusions objectively) making decisions.

The stories draw conclusions, but don't provide evidence for their conclusions.

And neither do you.

But there is a mountain of evidence supporting that there is indeed a warming climate change.  I tell you what I told writeroflight -- we can assume that it is totally natural and accept that it is inevitable and that we are going to face some gross disasters and there is nothing we can do about -- or we can decide to mitigate it somewhat by taking steps to limit carbon emissions -- but this latter doesn't yield profits for certain interests, does it?

REGARDING HURRICANES -- KATRINA, ETC.
Some years ago, one of the predictions of Global Warming was increase in number and intensity of hurricanes.  That hurricane season certainly seemed to fulfill the predictions.

GREENLAND ICE IS MELTING RIGHT NOW YOU FOOL!!!
Scientists observing the phenomenon see meltwater running to sea, taking more ice with it.  This has been related in magazines and several television documentaries -- there is video of it.

You should quit relaying untruths.

the film gets its information
from outside sources

Al Gore is not the author of the information.

I have presented graphs that show that we have entered a period warmer than for quite a long time -- you can access them easily -- click on my blog.

One shows that CO2 levels are many times higher than they ever have been.  The other takes from several sources to show that this is a warmer period.

I will have to read your sources; but everything I have read concerning Global Warming supports the premise.

And you yourself agree that this is a warming period (although you attribute it to natural causes).

We don't have to go over all this again do we?  Melting glaciers and Arctic and Antarctic Icecaps, warmer weather creeping northward, drought across much of the U.S., the ice of the Arctic Ocean thinning to where ships will be able to traverse its waters, less snow on mountains, sea levels already rising to where seaside dwelling peoples have to move inland and in the U.S. beachfront erosion is causing problems.

But that's all right -- it's not happening -- is it?  It's all just propaganda spread by Al Gore.  I changed my blog title  to describe it better -- it's about the "ostrich reaction"  - stick your head in the sand and pretend it's not happening.
