Mmm?  I've resisted emoticons so far because I love trying to convey emotions in words - but eventually the online language may simply be by emoticons.

I love emoticons .... if I could I'd use them in every day conversation too! for e.g. if I could get by with just emoticons, today I'd just say

(someone had a little bit too much to drink yesterday!)

Evolution
Languages always change and evolve...theres nothing wrong with that. Humans are social creatures, we like to see expressions of emoton when were talking to people we cant see or reading the things they have written...

Re: food4thought
Exactly. That's why some say it could destroy written language, but I don't really believe it.

Emoticons...
Are helpful, particularly in the short form of a blog, they save words.

Re: mademoiselle

 Ok...

You're right with the texting part.

It's funny how sometimes when I look for a word on the dictionary
and could find it-- because I've mistaken some "internet words" with "real" words.

Yep - I'd use more emoticons but I'm lazy!!

I think the real danger lies in the proliferation of texting ...

Half my classmates can't spell at all (largely due to "brain rot" brought on by "excessive abbreviation"). Plus, quite frankly, their sentence structuring leaves much to be desired.

And this is in a writing course!

"Me fail English? That's unpossible!"
