Hmm
Wow, I never really thought of the evil of reality shows, I suppose becuase I don't take them very seriously. This was an interesting take on it, thank you.

I’m one of those people who doesn’t believe evil exists. Poor judgment, envy, jealousy, or even siding with someone thereby wishing someone else misfortune (your example) isn’t, for me, the face of evil. We are given the gift of goodness and what we do with that gift can be shaped, altered, or even destroyed by outside influences but still, I don’t believe it’s evil that’s causing the erosion. Is weakness evil? Is the lack of self conviction evil? Is allowing one’s thoughts to stray into darkness the work of evil? I think it’s losing faith in ourselves and losing sight of that which is bigger than us. Just my spin…. and thank you for invoking these thoughts.

Now I see why people were referencing you in my post about evil. Oh it exists all right and it's down right scary sometimes!

In this world of dichotomies, evil is powerful

in pulling us towards our most fear-based instincts, the most animal-based side of  the human being.  It is the temptation of surety and security--to have complete power over one's own life, in the form of plenty of resources, of comforts, of strength to have one's needs--actual and percieved--met fully.  It is the opposite of trust and faith in the good will of the Universe or God or Providence--whatever name it goes by.

I am not quite ready to label all our human shortcomings as 'evil' - otherwise we have no word for the real evil, as done by Chester Arthur Stiles, for example...

The same is true of most drama, most movies, most novels etc.
They all create entertinment out of evil. What about the incrdible popularity of the 'crime' genre? What about the news headlines? The clips on YouTube? People love reading about and watching deaths, executions, and cruelty. Reality TV is just a milder version of this.

Your observations are quite on track! Good guys kick their butts, anyway! If they disagree, send them to SB!

I don't watch tv, but have heard. Why watch it on tv, it happens in real life as well. I try to forgive as well as I beg forgiveness when I have done others wrong. Quick with the mouth, slow with the brain...not ill intended, but idiotic and stupid all the same. Just plain stupid for the most part. It is sickening when you actually realize what you've done (such as hit the send key or hang up the telephone) and no way to undo the damage or pain you have caused. I am an evil one.  My pennents should be a long term vow of silence (or to take away my writing), maybe I would think before I speak or consider more of what I write as well. (I'm not joking). I do feel sick because of something I've done.

Absolutely. It gives credence to the saying "good guys finish last"

How about the blatant distrust of anyone that is nice? The nice ones don't
have a chance of a snowball in hell.  Either they're used, manipulated, and discarded by those on the show, or, if the public is voting, cynicism sets in and the really nice ones are voted off after the public "sees through" their "obvious" charade.
