If you figure the average woman probably carries a purse for 60 years of her life, that's less than 2 per year, for the cold and warm seasons.....considering purses are not carried inside the pocket, but exposed to the elements, banged on tables, floors, etc....and that they carry many things necessary should anyone need emergency assistance (especially men and children)....well, they take a hell of a lot of abuse.  And, unfortunately, many women never discover the actual economy of buying quality leather in bags and shoes (for service as well as style) so their bags actually wear out fairly quickly.

Okay.....I have Coach bags over 30 yrs old....I wouldn't even try to count all my purses, so I've put lots of thought into this issue....

Re: I'm about purses like I am about cars. I find one I like, and keep it
Pat, I like your attitude. Although when it comes to cars, I am heavily conflicted - mine, though getting on, is still running beautifully, and for now I remain loyal, but there are so many other beauties out there...

I'm about purses like I am about cars. I find one I like, and keep it
as long as it holds together. Guess I'm not exactly a fashionista, because I don't care whether the purse matches my shoes. If the car gets me where I'm going when I want to go somewhere, if the purse holds my essentials and hangs on my shoulder, all else I need is coffee in the morning, something to laugh about, and a decent night's sleep.

Cringe! Stainless steel heels? Alex knew what he was doing! They wouldn't have let you into the country...

I'm more of a shoe person, Imelda Marcos ain't got nothing on me, except more money to buy more shoes.

I did a massive clearout before I came here and had to get rid of a lot of old friends.  Alex refused to let me bring my hand made Italian boots with the stainless steel heels into the country, he thinks they're an abomination.

Mind you I did buy them during a prior bad break up, and there were those flames stitched up the sides.  Maybe handbags are safer.

I could count the number of purses I've had in my lifetime, almost on one hand.  Someday, I might buy a nice mathching purse and shoes, but that would be just out of character for me.  I am carrying now the little purse my daughter gave me six years ago.  Can I help it if a purse lasts me almost forever?

I'm the exception here-- I can not believe how women go nuts for purses- it just is beyond me!!!  Thousands of dollars... for purses???  I just put my stuff in whatever bag my shoulder can handle at the time- basically black and utilitarian.  I think those fancy 'purses' are really gross!!!

owning 111 purses in this lifetime is remote.  Of course if I come back as Paris Hilton in my next...

Re: Soul
Those pouches they sell that come with belts are easy use. But I can't imagine 'a bag of tricks' fitting in there. Baskets, I believe were used  many years aback. But they are not very fashionable. 'Hey nice basket there'......doesn't sound too good an ice-breaker. Then there's the vanity and status issues. Thanks

I like the idea of pockets, it's safer. If this becomes fashionable, some animals won't have to be slaughtered in the cause of vanity or for the necessity of having to walk with a 'bag of tricks'.

Purses are not my bag anymore since I've retired.  I've known too many old women who have been attacked in some way by someone trying to grab the thing, or lost one by sitting it down and not watching it closely, or sitting it on top of the car for a moment and forgetting it and driving off with it still up there.  But, you make me wonder how many I've had in my lifetime.  Now, I just love pockets, lots of pockets.  LOL
