Tough enough....
Generally when a person is trying to be macho and tough....its all based off of their ego. To be perfectly honest....ego comes from fear, straight and simple. So I think your assumption that this person has fear is most likely correct. I've never faced the difficulty of being sized up based on gender...but I have far to many times based on either age(not so much anymore) and background. Be the person you are...you know your limitations better than anyone else, I've found that there is a little fun and satisfaction in proving someone wrong....and yes, I do realise that there is a little bit of ego involved with doing that...lol...:)
