Do you really hear that every night?

Actually, it would be weird if it wasn't humming, since the universe
is made up of harmonic strings -- or at least that's the latest theory. Harmonic strings and dark matter, and space, lots of space. Room for echoes.

I got paranoid at the last line, when anyone mentions snoring I
automatically think it's me.  The world doesn't revolve around me, and I'm certainly not responsible for it's humming either!

Hmmmmmmm???
What's the buzz???

I don't know why but I laughed out loud at the last line.. am I the only one who thought it was you snoring?  But seriously, just to add my bit - there has been an idea around since at least the Middle Ages, the Music of the Spheres, about the planets all having their own sound. I rather like that idea.

Maybe when it gets the tune just right with its humming, the Earth will break out into full blown singing and dancing.

Re: Naut - Ha, ha, ha! This is believable considering how much of the earth
Mary, yes there still is a lot, even though there is less now - it's been very hot all day, and I had to add more water to my scotch than usual...

Re: Great post Naut.....In a part of New Mexico people have been complaining
Rocky, your remark about the reactions of animals is very astute. There are indeed hypotheses about it in this paper, but I didn't want to get into that - these are just tidbits, after all...

Naut - Ha, ha, ha! This is believable considering how much of the earth
is covered in water.

Wow!
Convceivably, this place is going to self-destruct in, say, an epoch or two.

Great post Naut.....In a part of New Mexico people have been complaining

of a similar noise...like a constant hum. Some believe that it is ELF waves used by the govt. for manipulation reasons. Have you heard about this? Oh, and because of the earth's natural hum I believe this is how animals can tell of an upcoming disaster. I just hope Mother Earth is whistling a happy tune! LOL

Kabu, if you have found that out all by yourself, I'm going to nominate you for the Nobel Prize...

Re: This is so interesting particularly as we live in constant earthquake
we have tiny earthquakes here on rare occasions, that people who live in real earthquake zones dismiss as 'hiccups'. Your sons wouldn't be impressed...

I'm glad I can't hear it, cos I'd be humming it all day... can't get you outa my head... uh oh, it's Kylie for me now I've said that. And for you, if you hum it.

For some reason, it reminds me of that old tune, 'The hills are alive with the sound of music'...

Hah but I've been given the real truth.
there's a big 'OL engine down there in inner earth land and the Browly Browly's run it so the earth keeps turning around. That's the hum they talk about.

This is so interesting particularly as we live in constant earthquake
country.  We ve experienced the rolling motion of two.  Imagine my less than thrilled response to my sons reaction"cooooool,I wish that could happen again "right.  Im sure he'd be so thrilled when the earth cracks open. and he falls in...

Wow - so now I know what that hum in my head is....     I actually love the idea of deep down on the ocean floor waves crashing into each other.  It reinforces that the earth is breathing at all times.

I had actually never heard of that, Pat! Interesting! Maybe there are people who are more sensitive to waves the rest of us do not experience...

There was a big story in the news in the '90s about the Taos hum...
Some people couldn't hear it at all. Some heard it so clearly it drove them nuts. I believe there was a thing going around at the time that Taos was some kind of psychic convergence zone where the good vibes led to lots of creativity... Art colonies & expressive endeavors. Interesting post...
