But I do stand by my own experience which is that I can think and act
far more efficiently without alcohol than with. Drink is for backstage after the show!

No, Discom - I popped out and got some wine at 1 am in the end!
But I had only one glass, to help in getting to sleep. Stopping smoking has really helped to cut down the amount I drink. Now I can claim I drink purely for medicinal purposes!

Please do pop in now and then, Dark Mistress, and take a look at my
drinks cabinet!

Hmm I dunno Tony, alcohol makes words flow more easily for me
The only reason I'm not an alcoholic is this little nagging thing called a conscience. It won't let me forget that I'm destroying my body when I drink too much (not to mention the weightgain risk, and after losing heaps of weight I don't want to put it all back on). The same nagging voice applies whenever I smoke.

Ahh you've resisted the siren song of my recent poem/prose!
Or would that be a proem?

OK Proc, I'll have a look shortly. I didn't mean to sound sceptical, but
you're right that I didn't commit myself to believing they actually were there in reality, so fair comment. I'll pop over to your place. As for myself, generally speaking, the sonnets are written sober. I wrote one when i was extremely drunk after going down the pub, and a few migfht have followed a small amount of drink, but most are sober poems! Not too sober in language theough, I hope!

Yes, Enigmatic, I agree.
Getting drunk is fine as a thing to do now and then, but it's best done when you're not intending to do anything else, because whatever you do, you do it worse. That even includes playing an instrument such as the guitar. I traditionally have a drink or three when I play, but when I DON'T, I play SO MUCH BETTER!!! Drinking is therefore the activity of a LOSER. I'm not talking to you, Enigmatico - just myself. In fact, having said all this, I'm going to pop out in a moment and buy some beer. But it's okay because it's really late now and I've done some writing and everything else that can be done - plus, a valid excuse for me is that it will help me get to sleep. Is that enough rambling to justify buying some beer? Who cares? I'm gonna stop now so I can go and get it!

Eddie, yes, that would be lovely.
We're not far from where you want to go - at least on a trip for a day or two - in Yorkshire. It's a nice part of the world. Do keep in touch. Thanks for the appreciative comments.

Hello there Teddy!

True, Bhaskar - maybe I should nip out in the car and buy a bottle of beer
from the all night petrol station. Bhaskar, for a spiritual type, you have just been the devil's advocate, and you've won the case with a brilliant argument. Thanks (I think!)

Tonyzonit, you produce such lovely stuff. I dont know how much is done
sober.  Maybe you re the next PB Shelley.  Didnt he write the famous poem about Kubla Kahn while high on something. Thanks for reading my post.  I sense a touch of scepticism.  Please read my reply when you find the time. happy writing.

Tony
I'm with you. The only things I can do when I'm drinking are 1) Ramble on to people who may or may not want to listen 2) Listen to music, or 3) (My personal favorite) Watch a movie in the comfort of my own home! But as far as "firewater" stimulating my brain into creatvity - forget it!

Fantastic poem Tony
I loved the poem Tony.  I am posting a new one today and I hop eyou check it out.  I do not drink anymore but I remember too when my min dwas choked by drunkeness.  I do however smoke cigaretters but my beautiful one and I plan on quitting smoking together starting Tuesady.  I feel that in caring for her I will be able to quit easier thna simply trying to quit for myself.  Great poem!  I am also wondering waht kind of book you are planning to write.  I am currently working on a book also and I was wondering if we could get in touch via eamil somehow before I head to Englnd with my beautiful one and who knows maybe in Engalnd we could even meet up and exchange creative writing ideas.  I think you are very talented and I would love to get to know you as a fellow writing brain :)  Peace.

Excellent, Tony, Really very, very nice. But mine is activated in booze

And another reason

  • When you drink, you get drunk
  • When you get drunk, you go to sleep
  • When you sleep, you don't sin
  • When you don't sin, you go to heaven
  • So, lets all get drnk and go to heaven.

Yes, you're right, FreeManWalking - I suppose it's an internal
conversation. It's amazing how much better everything is done when sober - it's hard to see the point of drinking at all, really. it should be seen the same way as any intoxicating drug, I'm increasingly starting to think.

I like the little twinge of self control your grasping for here. Convincing
ourselves is the first step to changing our actions
