Here is one of the problems: a lot of people don't understand what

spiritual healing is, or what it is meant to accomplish.  They get angry because the aspirin they took did not clear up their congestion, and No-doz did not cure their insomnia...  They don't bother to read and comprehend the label instructions that could inform them, but go by what someone else told them, or some other assumptions.

If a healer, Reiki or other kind, fails to offer the correct information, and encourages wrong expectations, it's hard to argue with that anger.

We, as practitioners, (I am not a Reiki practitioner, but was trained in a different kind of energy healing technique) owe it to our potential clients to tell them as clearly and honestly as possible what they can reasonably expect from the technique, and from us as the one who brings it to them.  After that, it is their responsibility to weigh what we've told them with what they themselves perceive of our energy, and make their own decision whether to use our services or not.  Mistakes are learning experiences.

When I make mistakes that cost me, I sigh, write off the lost cash as tuition, and try to determine what the mistake actually was, so I can not make it again next time!

Perhaps you are not providing the utility you think you are
When i was dying I went to countless Reiki healers and New Age practicioners looking for help and good advice.

None of them could understand or wanted to understand what I was going through.

There hands were cold and lifeless and all I just grew more and more restless and desparate.

These people claim to be able to heal, but there are never any testimonials and eventually the work fizzles out when people realise that they have no real power.

These are also the very same people who do a Reiki course over six weeks and then declare themselves to be masters.

They arrogantly claim to be psychic and 'in the light', but at the end of the day, the very work they do results in their own downfall, becasue of a corrupted energy field. All bodyworkers suffer the same burnout eventually, because they fail to understand how and why prayer is paramount to the work they do.

I have a psychic friend who travels upcountry to give readings but in seven years he is still struggling to get by. Desperate people phone him up looking for help and support and he sells them little vials of magic potion at extortionate prices. Some of these people have already lost husbands, jobs etc and now they have to fork out for his snake oil.

I followed him to the psychic fair where i got four separate readings from each of his friends. They offered to read my cards for free and who was I to complain.

All four reading were totally different, there was no common thread to any of it.

That is why were are warned against this stuff. It leads to false hope.

Jaahda -
Maybe I'm weird, but I was raised to pay for services rendered to me, whether one charges or not. If I have taken someone's time, that time is worth something to them, so it is only right to pay them for that time used. I guess I am lucky. I perform Reiki treatments for folks on occassion. I ask for nothing in return, but almost always someone offers.

The only service which should come with a satisfaction guarantee
is political service.  "Sorry, Congressman, your constituents say you were horrible.  No paycheck for you!  And here is the bill for your 'perks'."

"The worker is worth his hire."

When someone pays the healer, they not only say, "Thank you!" which is common courtesy, they also give something back for what they have received, and that keeps things balanced on an energy level.  It also confirms how much they value what they have received.

Some people feel guilty over getting something of value and not being able to give anything back.

To those who think spiritual healing services should be free, or that it should come with a satisfaction guarantee, try telling that to your doctor, or the minister who married you, or the companies that deliver water, electricity and cable service, or the artist, or story-teller...

Getting paid fairly for an ephemeral product:  It is a problem that just about every spiritualist who tries to make a living from his/her skills and talents runs into.  And we can spend years running back and forth between the ethical poles and arguments that others make to us, and that we make to ourselves.

As you can see, I am there, too...  I've finally decided not to argue any more, but to simply put forth my menu of services with pricing, and I always offer basic healing services by donation-- with the caveat that 'by donation' does not mean 'free.'
