yes, I think you're right, it's apathy of absolutely staggering proportions...

I've been stating much the same thing, Nautikos. Sadly, it is being shown
on screens lit before blind eyes.  Or apathetic eyes, which may be even worse...

thanks for your comment! I agree with you pretty well on what we need, but I also know that we will not get what we need. Oh, and I don't think Russia is a democracy yet, and probably won't be in our lifetime...

We need a Free World Federation
IMHO, this is what this all comes down to.  Yes, Russia is now a democracy, but we still have anti-freedom heavyweight China in the "Security" Council.  FDR said "In the future days, which we seek to make SECURE.." before launching into the Four Freedoms.  There are precious few governments in the Middle East that could survive the freedoms of speech and worship and, of those, fewer still that would not require intervention to bring freedom from fear.

Naut

I read in The Times online that unspecified intelligence agencies believe that Mad Inejad has probably already bought three nuclear bombs from the Ukraine.

WMG deja vu, or fact?

Rumours that Mon Blogue has purchased such fiendish devices, are, like those of my death, completely unfounded. Ignorant subhuman cretins who propagate such gossip are clearly unaware that our massive stocks of bacteriological weapons make such toys as hydrogen bombs completely redundant.

Anyone interested in arming themselves with these superb weapons, should ( entirely at their own risk ) contact our Weapons Development Officer, Mr. Mustapha Crapp, at the Sales Department of Mon Blogue.

Sadly.....Naut....
If "Pooty-Poot" gets his way we may be headed for another "cold" one.....but that's for a future post........

Quite scary
Let us hope that it never gets to that as I feel it would set of a chain reaction with devastating effects

unless a minor miracle occurs, such as Ahmadinejad acquiring sanity, they may have no choice...

Naut, I'm glad you reposted this..thanks...maybe its just me but I have
visions of Israel, on their own, just taking Iran out some night..if anyone could and would do it, they would, and with no fear of repercussions (my opinion)....

Well, even I hadn't read this blog and I diidn't think I'd missed too many. My thinking is that everybody should just chill out, because Abracadabradad or however you spell his name, and he isn't worth looking up, will soon be another dead part of history. Shalom.

As far as I am concerned, increasing the pressure on Iran, and quickly, is the only thing left to do. And I am aware of the growing opposition in that country, my only fear is that, if they won't actually topple or possibly assassinate him, Ahmadinejad is going to be even more dangerous! The guy has a Messiah complex! I figure by early summer, if they haven't stopped producing, Israel will strike...

I agree completely! If that terrible event were to occur, it would be largely our fault!

yes, while the North Korean situation appears to be developing as expected, the West has been dithering over Iran as before, and the problem has become only more acute...

thanks! I agree, many in the West appear to wear blinders...

I just saw your comment......
To many here in the West....appearances many be deceiving......we've been totally wrapped up on the circus know as our elections....and so we've been a bit distracted......

There has been numerous incidents of insurgency inside of Iran,  dozens upon dozens of the religious milita and "secret police" have been killed......and ol' Abracadabra is sweating  the possibility of an impeachment (and it didn't even involve a Blue Burka) of his own......the situation over there is....shall we say....very fluid???

A timely post.....
And on a more positive note.......Things are indeed heating up....... there is a nervousness in Tehran.  The Ayatollah Khamenei probably knows he's going to die without any of the great victories he has been pursing.....  Lebanese democracy has not yielded.....there is no Islamic Republic in Iraq...and Israel is still there.

This week, the big Iranian news came from Europe with the announcement that the EU's experts have concluded that they have totally failed to deter the Iranians' nuclear-weapons program.

From the Financial Times:

"At some stage we must expect that Iran will acquire the capacity to enrich uranium on the scale required for a weapons program,"  all EU governments have been informed of this conclusion, along with the (obvious) analysis: "the problems with Iran will not be resolved through economic sanctions alone."

Meanwhile, while everyone was focused on Pelosi Galore's Coronation this past few weeks, GW, knew  diplomacy had no chance........Bush let them play out the string. Now they must fold....and he is ratcheting up the ante against the mullahs.

While at the same time.....building up US air and naval strength in the region.

Pretty good "strategery" for an ignorant hick from Texas......

Well written and well constructed post!
(even if it was a year ago when you first wrote it) your points are as true today as when they were written.  To me, I know that one day I'll flip on the news and see where Iran has laid a nuke upon Israel.  With our country's neglect in wiping out Iran's capabilities, I feel we will be partially responsible for its occurance.

It is interesting to me that a year has not really changed much of anything in regards to what you wrote in this post.
