You knew what everyone didn't: that this was a human, capable of mistakes. We tend to dwell on turning these people into monsters, instead of even considering that we help foster such behavior. Our society is indeed sick.

I cannot imagine the confusion that runs rampid through your mind because your brother's crimes.  I'm so sorry.

I hate to suggest that you exploit your brother's problems, but I bet a book publisher would be very interested in the view of someone like yourself.

yes I suppose it would have been brought up at trial, had he not killed himself so quickly after his arrest.

I used to think it was, but the more I know about multiple personality the more I don't think that was the case with him.

Julia...I'm so sorry you've had to live with this all your life..there is

no way I can imagine what your life has been since this terrible tragedy. It makes me wonder about your brother's karma. If you are interested I have a friend that does past life readings through the Akashic Records like Edgar Cayce did. He has done thousands of readings and the readings he has done for me always gave me answers to my situation. He may be able to give you insight into your brother's past lives or even your connection to your brother which is called a crossing. He does these of course in person but he also does them by mail that would include a tape of the reading.  Let me know if you're interested. Was something recently in the media again? Please know that I will keep you in my prayers!

Yeah I think when a serial killer or any crime in that league is written about the papers tend to focus on the victims of the crime and circumstances surrounding it. The physical and mental make of of the killer is usually not the focus...but does come into the picture during trial and such...

It had to be very hard on all your family to find this stuff out in the newspaper...

Julia,
sounds like split personality.

Perhaps people feel that by extending kind thoughts or words to the perpetrator and his or her family, they are in some way betraying the victim?

thanks for reading.

we all like to think we know what we are (and aren't) capable of, but I wonder if we really, truly do?

this might sound completely off the wall, but I am not sure I would attribute it to a dark force, at least not in this particular case.

yes, hard to fathom...but some of us must try; though I suspect I'll not ever truly be able to understand.

Julia

it is almost as though we cannot allow ourselves to feel compassion for the victim and the perpetrator at the same time, for however much of that we have to give has to be given to the victim. That to reserve some of it for the perpetrator would somehow diminish our feeling for the victim...

And many, I'm sure, take the position, 'let God have mercy on him, I won't.'

Having said all that, I do understand your point completely, and I think even your pain...

I can't begin to imagine what you and your family went through, and still go through. Seems like more often thatn not I hear stories about murderers who seemed like "normal" people, and whom no one suspected could do such things. It always makes me wonder about people I know, and what they might be capable of. I wonder if something could snap inside of ME and I could become something I would never want to be. It's terribly scary. What makes it so is that people who do these awful things ARE human.

Common is its Name
People do not want to think that they have anything in common with a murderer, but they do.  It is our dark side which is common; Hitler was not remarkable, the "Common Man" enthroned.  Only by taking on the noble side of Love do we elevate ourselves.  Even so, many of us slip back into the common morass of murder and pain our family and friends with the prospect of following in the wake.

Peace to you and yours as you recover from this,

Carl Peter

Julia

It's a case of " There but for the grace of God" I guess.

For who knows what dark force triggers the beast in us all? Nobody, least of all the " experts" can fathom the deepest recesses of the mind.

I feel for you, amiga.

Be well
