I carry either
A 9mm Ruger or a .357 S & W when I go out. Either one has hollow point loads.

I am used to 9mm
If you don't get to shoot a lot, it is better to shoot what you are used to. I have shot 9mm for about 20 years, and I keep Federal HydroShok ammo in my 9mm auto pistol. If I have to shoot a drugged-up robber 2 or 3 times, that is easy and only takes a second.
