Thanks. I am thinking about putting up a post about the fiasco in Iraq.

Talk about having a bubble burst: I worked in Mount Airy for two years as a paramedic. It is probably one of the most corrupt places I've ever seen. That was a huge let down for me. I was very intrigued about it having such a down home reputation.

No, it's you who are too kind, Avant-Garde
I've never had "issues" or problems with paramedics, no bad experiences, they're just doing a difficult job with grace.  You do God's work, my friend.

avant-garde...

I found your post and the comments to be very interesting. I watched his show many times while growing up. Guess I feel a little disappointment in that he wasn't in reality, as I always thought him to be.  Guess that is TV land and another bubble burst.

I wish you and your precious family, an early Happy Valentine's Day.

There is only one Mayberry in this entire area: Mayberry Trading Post, which is a general store built in 1892 up on the mountain in Patrick County. According to locals, Andy's dad used to take him there when he was a boy.

That's a cute little house! I probably wouldn't stay in it though.

How interesting. The first I knew of Andy Griffith was his talking recordings of, "What It Was Was Football" and "Romeo and Juliet".  Back in the 1950's someone gifted my dad with those and he played them continuously until we all went nuts repeating them from memory.  LOL

OFFBEATS
I'm not sure I'd be willing to fork out any money to stay there, with all that I've heard about him.

Always a pleasure seeing that you've visited. Thank you.

That's interesting. I've never seen him, even though he's been within ten miles from here a couple of times over the past five years. I don't like crowds much.

from the outside it looks cute, a little plain perhaps but cute. Andy is one of the few celebrities I've ever seen in person, we were at the same show in Vegas one time.

Well, reality is usually disappointing when it comes to these matters.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with our tv shows. This one was very popular in the early 60's.

No, I didn't. Maybe you should write a post about that.

Well, as I said, it's not one of my favorite places to visit, but it is interesting to see firsthand.

No, I'm just not interested. There's a cabin high in Kibler Valley I would much prefer. It's 60 a night. It's really cool.

Well, I must say that I was disappointed to hear that he was nothing like his character on tv. But, it is tv.

That looks a lot like the house on the show.
Just sort of reversed and with a smaller front porch.

Avant Garde, are you planning an ovenight stay? I know you like to visit

places where there are paranormal activity just to see what you can "pick up on".

Maybe the townspeople were not that kind to Andy in his youth, that often happens and can leave someone with a permanently bad attitude.

that's a lovely house.

Well Avant, you're a good judge of character. Peter told me Andy once got
into a fist fight with a trash collector because he accused him of going through his trash! He was a bit high on himself! Peter has some great celebrity stories!

I heard that he was in drama class in high school, and often made fun of. Perhaps, he had some anger issues over the whole thing.

I've heard about Andy not being nice, too. He's made a few unscheduled stops in Mount Airy over the years, but nothing official. He's always maintained that Mount Airy was not the inspiration for his show. He lied for many years, often looking ridiculous. I don't have a lot of respect for the man, to be honest.

Sometimes people want to completely abandon (or deny) their roots.  I've never fully understood this.  Sure... there may be some dark or uncomfortable memories but every day shapes us into who we are the next day.  Denying our past is denying who we are.

Wow this is so cool Avant...

I think I told you Peter grew up in Beverly Hills and had some celebrities as neighbors.  Well Andy lived in his neighborhood and it was general concensus in the neighborhood that he was an a**hole.  He was always rude and mean to the kids in the neighborhood! He was nothing like his Mayberry character! Oh and Peter also said Jerry Lewis was a major A**hole too! LOL
