I feel originality comes from the heart. . ., though it may or may not be INFLUENCED by the thoughts of others.

By the way, I don't know how in the world you drifted from your dream story (which was very interesting and delivered with precision) to the discussion of originality.

Helen
I think everything has an origin from somewhere. I also believe that we can influence one another, even subconsciously. It is really not fair to claim anything, then. Some of the best stuff I've done has come spontaneously after being very calm and quiet. Where does it come from? It makes me wonder. Nice post.

Hello Helen,
dream is a play thing of the sub-conscious mind.

Sometimes dreams are all in your head

But sometimes they are something from outside, I believe.

I've had the rare dream that actually survived the impulse to write it into a story or poem upon wakening-- but mostly, when I wake up thinking I've got the novel of the century, by first breakfast, it has dwindled to nothing in particular.

Helen whatever your dream was about I think it is quite original

Have you thought of having it analysed and then writing from there.

I feel "peeved" for your Mum. It's flatering to be copied but NOT to ignore the inspiration a piece of work springs from.

The man who draws copies and he keeps what he copied from to show people what an amazing likeness he has achieved. People appreciate that

Now write that story
