That's why I'm not that fond of groups like PETA, Babe. The extremists give everyone in the field a bad name, and make otherwise-reasonable people reluctant to state their own opinions for fear of running afoul of the extremists' sensibilities.

I don't eat meat and I have a soft spot for animals but I believe common sense should reign.  A person can do more good as an activist by avoiding extremism.  I try to take good care of the animals I own.

Believe it or not, Julia...
I agree with you - that's why I included my position on the use of animals in cosmetics experimentation. Animals have a legitimate role in our lives, providing us with clothing (made out of wool and leather, for example), food (in the form of meats, eggs, milk and honey), and assistance (guide dogs for the blind, seizure-alert dogs, and so forth). But there are some things that shouldn't be done with animals - we shouldn't be experimenting on them with cosmetics ingredients, for example. Animal abuse is also wrong. I hate thinking of all those poor animals that get beauty products tested on them, or all the creatures that get dumped cruelly on the roadside when humans are "done" with them.

Sometimes the groups like PETA do go to extremes.
Their hearts are in the right place, they want what they think is *best* for all animals. I agree with them at times and other times, I don't. I hate to see the way some humans take liberties with animal life and welfare, just because we can. And humans who think they are "superior" to animals...now that is just wrong, IMHO.
