I read you back then, but I can't remember what I did yesterday.
Having a brain injury means that it's all new again!  lol... at least I can watch movies I've seen back during certain years and really not remember the endings. I know you could never forget us. :) Marines are nuts, really, but you gotta love 'em.  I have a cousin, who I adore, in the Rangers (somewhere, dunno)... another friend on his second tour in the Army (he was there for the first 18 months, and they extended me again).  I just wish it would all be finished with.  Hugs to you.  Have you seen this yet?  SO funny.... (Lazy Ramadi, Army guys did a rap video.)

Bel, Good for you.!!
I'm sure the letter will work. Bad Butthead Store manager. He'll probably try to weasel out of it somehow. Good Luck, and keep up the good work.

Yikes!  Pretty incensitive on the part of the manager.  Good letter and good for you for writing it.  Many of us return home after a disturbing experience and have great intentions of expressing our concerns or righting a wrong but all to often we fail to get around to it.

Hey, don't forget us!
You know U.S. Marine families got yer back on that stuff, too.  When my ex-boyfriend went to Baghdad (he was in the Navy, but put in an Army logistics position in the Green Zone for the hand over) I started a new job that same day.  I cried all the time because he was still getting settled and it was a while before I heard from him.  My boss was awesome, even during training.  The company sucked in general, but that part was cool... lol... I have a sweatshirt that says, "MARINES...wife..." and we live in like a little Marine mini-city close to base.  This girl looked at me that worked at Starbucks one day and just about burst into tears.  I knew exactly why and we just smiled, I said... it gets a little easier, hang in there.  We have to all stick together because there is so much political hooey in this war.  No matter what anyone's opinion of the war, the gov't or the president, we are still all Americans. Great letter, and good for you for writing it and for standing up for her. (We need a little flag icon now.)

Exactly my intention Joe
I detest walmart and would rather eat mushrooms than shop there especially on a Saturday...but they needed to be reminded that it could happen.

Your letter is very well-constructed and effective.
I have no doubt that the manager you speak of will be reprimanded.  By the way, I'm sure your reference to Super Walmart will make the supermarket own (or general manager) cringe.

Naut
I agree.  It's a long story as to all that occured but I insisted the manager give her a break right then and there (funny what happens when you show them your press ID, even if it is no longer valid ).  I bought the young woman a coffee and sat with her a bit.  She said he is the only one who gives her trouble.

good for you! You did exactly the right thing! And the company should take a close look at that manager! He doesn't appear to have the attitude, tact and interactional skills to be in that position...

That occurance is outrageous on several levels.  Rude classless managerial behavior. Two things must go on in life: birth and death, people need time and consideration for both. No person who is not willing to be compassionate about Military families are worth much. Vulgarity is rampent because people watch such junk as Rosie-Donald. When we allowed Jerry Springer to stay on the air we sold out to classless behavior. YOU DID THE THING. YOU LET THIS PERSON KNOW PEOPLE SHOULD NOT BE TREATED IN SUCH A CALLOUS AND VULGAR MANNER IN PUBLIC OR PRIVATE. WHEN WE STOP ACCEPTING CRAS BEHAVIOR IN OUR PRESENCE IT WILL STOP!

thanks so much.  I think too often we let bad behavior slide, which tells the person that it's OK to be like that.

I think your personal experiences are the exact reason it affects you so deeply.  Maybe if your life were different the lives of soldiers wouldn't affect you as much as they do, but my gut tells me you're not the type of person to go around to others saying "why do you take it so personal" in regard to the causes or experiences they feel passionately about.  You get what passion means to you, as well as to others.  That's why I love ya so much!

Good for you Bel..I'm glad you are writing this letter. I often wonder

what has happened to people's compassion for others. In my opinion people have gotten so absorbed in their own lives that they find little compassion for others. It seems like a sign of the times...unfortunately!

I often wonder if it would affect me so deeply had I not walked the path I had.  I just wish people would understand that every soldier that falls is "their" soldier.

You should've taken it as a personal attack.  The manager would've done the same thing had it been you as the cashier!  I also saw what commented in Pecanflower's post about the person who asked why you take things so personal.  Some people just don't get it unless it affects them directly.  Or they're unable to understand humanity in general!

to be 100% honest, it has nothing to do with kindness.  I ripped that manager a brand new one in front a saturday afternoon crowd and yes, it was because what he did was wrong, but if I am honest, it was probably as much for me as it was for her.  It felt like a stab in my gut when he did that and I lost it.  I was so angry when I left that store I was shaking and it was odd because I had several people stop me on my way out and thank me.  The truth is; it felt like it was done to me.

I agree, I could have seen him talking to her later and just saying that in the future if she was in that bad of shape to let someone know and take the day off.  This could have been done nicely and the point would have still been as clear.

The manager does need a reprimand. Send your letter!!!
and maybe he's just a floor manager -- if there's a bigger wheel in the store, he/she might need to know the supervisory employee is abusing workers and creating ill will among customers.

Great letter

It's frustrating to see people in supervisory positions acting so callous and mean to people they work with. I'll bet if he had given her a quick 5 minute break to compose herself she'd be the best asset on his team. Instead she (and all the other cashiers) know they can't count on him.

Great idea to let the store know. Maybe they will get this guy out of his role as a supervisor.
