I think he would be more in touch with the spirit of what Christmas has become. People forget so easily and get irritable and short-tempered.

It wasn't their Christmas tree I was working on, but that is an interesting piece of trivia. Around here, the garbage trucks pick them up if they are set out before a certain date.

I did decided to follow that nudge, and it was a blessing. Thanks for the reading and have a wonderful time with your son.

I forgot about your unfortunate experience and I appreciate your thoughtful comment. May your loved ones be close at heart this holiday season. Bless you.

I'm afraid I've been ambiguous with the tree trimming details. I do tree work, and the trees I worked on were in his front yard. I did enjoy myself, though, despite the fact that they were not firs or spruce pines.

Thanks for being so kind and gracious. I see that this place has lost its appeal for you. I hope that you are still writing and using your many talents. Merry Christmas to you as well.

Let me see. I'm not sure. I'm very fond of leopards. It was an easy job. Just a little trimming of a magnolia and a sugar maple.

I'm not sure it was a healing gesture, but maybe it caused him to reminisce a little.

Well, they did like the gesture, but their hearts weren't as open as I had been expecting. I guess it's hard dealing with this, with it being the anniversary of his son's death! What sorrow.

Wonderful post Avant - we should all remember the real reason for

Christmas and not to get caught up in the rush.  Thanks for posting this.

Some of the best gifts do not cost a cent to give

They say if you do't have Christmas in your heart you aren't gonna find it

under any Christmas tree. You've got it in your heart!

You are His great gift to that man my friend. God bless you and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

avant-..the best gifts sure don't come all neatly wrapped and placed under

a fake tree..God bless for what you are doing..

I have the feeling if Christ was to walk through one of our malls at this time, He'd overturn a few trees and upset a few displays, then quietly (or maybe loudly) say "I did not come for this."

posted by Rumor on December 16, 2006 at 8:28 PM | link to this | reply

Later on, do you go back and take the tree down, too?

No one here ever wants to do that part, and we still have a tree in mid-january sometimes!

Avant-garde, trust you to take notice of such a nudge!  Parts... attunement... We all have Parts, and we also are Parts...!

I know personally that is the most precious gift you could give to anyone who has lost sons or daughters is to share your own. God bless you. What difference does it make what day Christ was born? It is the fact that he was born. He was one for celebrating good things. All the blessed days in the Old Testament are still celebrated today. He would not like the commercialism except to the point giving reasonable amounts in memory of what the day represents. Good post as is always the case.

Hi Avant! I hope you enjoyed trimming the tree as much
I enjoyed trimming someone's tree last week. A friend had a stroke and three of us went to her home to trim the tree. We had a wonderful time! Reaching out to others is always a time of joy for me! Bless you Avant and your family! Tomorrow is Gaudete Sunday, it means JOY so be joyful my friend, for Christmas is almost here. I think Jesus would enjoy celebrating Christmas day with you and yours! faholo

Wow!
Excellent!  Sometimes the gift's we give hurt the recipiant and only later do they appreciate the gift for what it is.  Wake-up calls usually sting.
