An interesting window into the trained mind of the sailor!
Is it enjoyable, though, or just a duty?

THANKS SOLO
ACTUALLY IT WAS THE ACTING CHIEF OF THE BOAT TELLING THE ACTING CAPTAIN.  YOU ARE NOT HE FULL BRASS UNTIL CONFIRMED, BUT THE RULES ARE THE SAME.   THE BIGGEST BATTLE CRAFT I HAVE EVEN BEEN IN COMMAND OF WAS AN 18 FT INFLATABLE ASSUALT BOAT THAT I COULD NOT WAIT TO GET OUT OF.... EVEN A HINT OF WAVE ACTION AND YOU GET SEA SICK.. IF GOD HAD MEANT MARINES TO SWIM, HE WOULD NEVER HAVE INVENT THE NAVY TO FETCH AND CARRY FOR US..  SEMPER FI...

Something to try
stbond on his post today in "assimilated by the blog" Had a co worker at the institute of higher learning give this direction to her creative poetry students "write something scary" and asked if any would like to try it with him. I told him IM game and thought how this may be right in farsailors creative wheelhouse so to speak.I would be interested in what we all come up with here on blogit.

Reminds me of a dialog in U541 when the XO tells the new captain that being a ships captain is a wonderful and terrible thing and how the three words "I don't know" when spoken by the skipper of the ship can kill a crew ,sure as a depthcharge.Because the captain always knows what to do even when he does not .Or so the crew needs to believe to follow his orders without question.

Farsailor
I can well imagine the position of "Captian" is an arduous one - and one well deserving of the unwavering respect.
