Great story, loved it. Puts me off love, though.
You notice how this never happens in the best-known fairy tales? There's suffering, yes, but at the end the heroine or hero always ends up with the castle and jewels back again. You have done us a great service here by not giving us that sugar-coated, or rather, jewel-encrusted ending!
