Very good, Bhaskar and his professor!

Tony
77 was really seventh heaven. I was in II yr college. Our Physics professor was a practical joker. We used to sit in the theatre that had sloping stairs, and the boys would invaribly sit at the back. One day it so happened that the boys sat at the front and the girls up back. The wise-crack professor came in and remarked, "How come today the skirts are up and the pants down?" Your poem is a reminder of those delightful years.

Haha Tony..
just a tiny bit late for me - off to bed, catch up tomorrow. Goodnight.

Tonyzonit,
you capture the 70s very well (I wish I could remember them a bit more but it's longer ago for me!) - nice memories here.

I thought you'd gone, so I went, and now I'm back, and you have gone...
... so now I AM going to bed. Bonne nuit, Blanche...

Oh, and Bon nuit, (did I spell that right?)

I have to go see a woman about a plumbing bill, Tony, needs must when
the devil drives. I hope that at some point, I can do things calmly and in order, but I tend to try to multi-task too much. I have two speeds: slow and hyperspeed, pray that I find the middle ground.

Action is good! See ya - I need to go to bed myself -
blessed inaction. Hope you get stuff done.

posted by Antonionioni on November 20, 2006 at 3:05 PM | link to this | reply

I don't even want to talk about it, Tony, it's over and done.
Sometimes I need to talk, and sometimes I need to act and today is an "action" day for me. I have many projects going, housework, bills, etc. to open those old doors, would deflect me and make me unproductive. Be well.

Hi Blanche
I agree to a large extent - although I must censor too much talk of the eighties on my site - we haven't got there yet! How about the late 70s, were they good, at least for the cultural things going on?

posted by Antonionioni on November 20, 2006 at 2:59 PM | link to this | reply

Personally, I'm glad the 80s are over, Tony, Reagan, my wilder years, all
of it.

Looks like you went to have another look
I won't keep you - late there for you and for me my all important Soap is coming on so it's nap time for me before I begin preparing dinner.  Ciao!

Really? Well done - quite a task.
I'll have a look...

Guess it was ok - I was a party girl for a while....
but then life took precedence.  I can't believe it- I'm obsessed.  I just went and changed the lines around on my poem.

To be honest, I only got into the rhythm of sonnets after
reading a few examples on the web, including some of the very lengthy Spenser's Faerie Queene. It becomes easier after reading some better examples than mine!

I didn't encounter the weed until at university a few years later.
It was OK then, and it fitted with the lazy naivete of student life very well! But that story must wait till the mid-eighties is reached. It sounds like you had a cool and exciting youth, though, Troosha.

Thanks for your comment, btw.  I smaked myself because as I said in my blog I knew the ABAB thing but it was a 1:00AM attempt and I f--ked up.  Guess I'm slightly older than you guys.  I was 22 in '77 already in full swing in the corporate world.

Yes, Troosh...
Well, strictly speaking I was only here for the beer, as they say. That day in July '77 was my first pint. Or half-pint, probably. It tasted horrible then - but there is a transition period between loving sweet tasting food and drink, and getting into the taste of beer. A rite of passage... Not that I'm an alcy... Now Dave, yes,...

I remember it that way too---from far-off South Africa. We had just won a
few vostly voctories after the Schools Rebellions of 1976. it was a calmer year and lots of good music. And braaivleis; I remember enjoying Castle Lager, a mild beer, that year also. Shalom (thanks for the feedback on my Sonnet Try). NEil

BIG hair period - glad that hasn't made a come back
A whimsical snap shot of the 70’s. What you weren’t out there cheering on the Queen?

I blanked it right out, Tony, don't even ask me to focus on it.

I know Blanche
but I haven't done much 'gross' yet in my poetry, but hopefully I made it seem beautiful in a funny sort of way!

Hi everyone.
I just love the sound and the look of 77. It has an irresistible quality about it. Did you like the bit about squee\zing spots? A female passion that often lasts well beyond the teenage years!  MC, I'm not surprised you were hiding away and not paying!

We are the same age, then, Marie-Claire I was 17 in Nov. 1977, too.
but over here in the States.

Tony, I was there!!!!in 1977,
Didn't you see me out there? I do remember it vividly. I was only 17, and it was my very first trip. I lived in Windsor for two weeks, one week in Ealing, and 4 or 5 weeks in Clapham South, a black ghetto area. I saw the whole cross section of the population. I hated the food. I spent two nights on the street, got picked up by the Sallies for one night, spent one in a bed and breafast. Spent one week in a hotel as a stowaway, hidden in my friend's room as an unpaying guest. I will never forget my first oveseas trip!

You cheeky sod! It is quite funny, full irony...or not sure what to call it, but you captured the era and the adolescent world so well. Hey Hay just taking a peek, while suposedly working.
