No
I don't think lack of ambition is a bad thing.  All my life I have believed what is important to seek out what makes me happy and figure out how to get it.  This includes most things you mentioned.  The focus on riches and fame is somehat misplaced, in my view, and SOOOOO limited!

Sometimes those books seem to focus on the obvious - but I guess there are people out there who need to be less self-obsessed and more kind. I've always sought out win-win situations where everyone gets something, but I know from the ruthless business world, that is not always the case. As for ambition, I think I've always had my own 'personal best' standards for whatever it is I'm doing, but I try to do it in a quietly confident sort of way. Some of my happiest friends aren't the least bit ambitious - but we are who we are, I guess.

AbsolutelyPositive, it depends on your definition of success

I like Ralph Waldo Emerson's version, which I don't have memorized, but a few things that stick out are, "To laugh often, to enjoy the respect of honest critics, to know that one person has breathed easier because you have lived, that is success".  My version of success has a lot more intangibles than material success, alone, although, I am getting to the point, where that is more important than it was.

But linear, goal-oriented planning is not for me. I can make to-do lists and phone calls etc to get things done, but in the larger scheme and design of things, the whole tapestry and design of my life is not clear to me, I simply do the next thing, and see what happens.
