Churchill had, and still has, no greater admire then I, bit I must say that I'm a litle tired of this insulting myth of Britain standing alone in the early stages of the war.
Britain had a virtually bottomless pit of manpower in her empire who she could, and did, call to arms. Only shortages of materiel prevent Britain pouring a veritable torrent of men into her war.
It's highly insulting to all those Canadians, Anzacs, Indians and other who fought and died in WWII, to perpetuate this myth.
You might be interested to find my piece about the year of 1941, to find out how we British actually felt at that time ( I was 10 in 1941 ) I'm also doing a series of remembrance posts.
