Nautikos, AMEN, Bro, to all that you said!!!

I think we would all do well to take the time to allow ourselves to be SICK!  When sick, our bodies need rest for healing, and lots of home "laboratory" manufactured chicken soup!!!!

So well said.  And regarding your poor hands, Merck has a wonderful pill called "Vioxx" which is very effective for controlling arthritis pain.  Oooops, wait, that was taken off the market and they're fending off a bazillion lawsuits . . . .   Hmmmmm, how about some tart cherry juice????

Jane,

AMEN to the whole post! And I wish people would take a little time and inform themselves! Information is available! One problem is that people don't even understand the difference between a virus and a bacterium!

Personally, I avoid drugs as much as I can. One of the best drugs for colds is chicken soup! (There is even research on that!) And people can manufacture that in their own labs! Insisting on antibiotics for viral infections is not just nonsense, it is harmful because chances are you will have decreased its effectiveness for when you really need it.

Now, if you have some nice pills for my hands, especially my thumb, as well as for my knee, I'll take them in a flash...

Rumored, then you're certainly on the right drugs!
I'm sorry to hear about your sarcoidosis . . . .

i usually let the illness run its course
over-the-counter stuff doesn't work for me.  i took antibiotics when i had an ear infection though - that's when you need them

Janes, the respirologist has me on prednisone and an inhaler, symbiocort
for this sarcoidosis I have to deal with..once he explained what kind of steroids these were, I was fine with the idea...certainly better than shortness of breath and wheezing....

Justi, my dear, the TV and cable stations would protest if drug ads on TV
were outlawed!  Imagine the amount of money they're hauling in from all this advertising!!!  But I would agree with you.

Pat B, your regimen sounds very similar to my parents'
They have  a fantastic diet, and they religiously eat one square of deep chocolate per day along with their vitamins, their huge variety of veggies and their healthy fats. Good for you!

Whacky, dumb or desperate, I'm not sure which it is!
But I hear you!

babe - that's funny you should mention it.

I find that Hispanics tend to want antibiotics quicker than most, stating that their doctors in Mexico give them an antibiotic at the drop of a hat.

Oh well. . . . .

Janes
Thank you so much for this very good advice. I am so angry that the drug companies are more in control of this country than the White House. Durg advertising on TV should be outlawed but nobody has time to complain. Good job lady.

I'm with you. I avoid antibiotics.

Steroids, too.  An old office mate was put on steroids for a lung condition, and they helped although she had some side effects. Trouble started when she finally went off those meds. She had to go back on lower doses.  I take vitamins, eat calcium tabs, try to eat 5 vegetable or fruit servings a day and get a half hour or so of exercise. And the darkest, densest chocolate I can get, a 1.5" square every day.

But if my medic says I need to take something, and I believe he's right, I do it religiously, on time and as directed. How else can he tell if it's effective? :)pat

When I can't breath I'd take anything that would help!

Especially over antibiotics that won't help. How dumb can people be?

My grandpa used to go into Mexico and buy big boxes of antibiotics. Took them for everything. Lived to be 96. Go figure.

Ha ha. My poor friend. I've now ruined it for you with regards to future

antibiotics . . . . .

Trust me, if I see someone who has been miserable for awhile, with fever, aches and chills for several days, I often take pity on them and treat with antibiotics.  I probably would have done the same for you.

Just take some Ibuprofen along with your heating pad, and call me tomorrow if no better.

I don't claim to understand how steroids work, but I have heard some do. Givin your advice I am going to hold off on those anti's for another day or so. I will sleep with my ear next to the warming pad, it always worked when I was a kid...
