No doubt about that, Shams-i-Heartsong (about GW). And I, too, agree
that to everyone his own belief system.  As long as it doesn't infringe or in any way negate mine or my person.  No one should have that power or right.

Interesting discussion.... may we all rise above the differences which
divide us.   We are all one family under the paerenthood of God, and one day all belief will be seen for what it is belief.  Truth is beyond words.  I suppose Mr. GW is glad to have some of the heat off of himself.

That sounds about right and in agreement with his little jibe at Islam the
other day.  He is the foremost authority in the Catholic Church on doctrine, led the office for years.  He's a hardliner and he was the guy you turned to when having a book or movie banned.  His ascension to the papal throne was condemned by many.

I heard somewhere the other day that this Pope
used to ghostwrite speeches on faith and reason for the previous pope. I also heard that at their summer meeting (colloqium) last year the Pope was reported as seeking a retraction after  someone quoted him as saying there was no point in  dialogue with Islam as it  can't deal with the modern world.

This pope was targeted long before he became pope, OFFBEATS. His
membership in the Hitler Youth and his hardline offices in the Vatican have put him at the forefront of controversy within the Church for years.  And extremists and radicals only need that proverbial inch, real or not, to insinuate a mile...

It's very sad that the Pope has been targeted, I often wonder what these extremists are thinking ( or if they are thinking at all)..A person can't say anything anymore without insulting someone or something...

No doubt about it, R.I. No doubt. Bush started a 'crusade'; this is just
another act in its development.

That is a true observation, Drew, and a sad one. Muslims have been
targeted.  Their hardline attitudes and spartan religious behavior, coupled with the zeal and their penchant for committing 'holy' atrocities, has made them an easy target.  Although for the most part these generalizations and stereotypes may be unjustified, the extremists and radicals of Islam are defining the way all Islam is being seen by the world.

and no one can tell me that nun who was executed wasn't a direct
result of all this...

Thin skin in the Middle East
IS there anything that does not offend Muslim's these days.  It has to be hard work to keep up with everything said, written or drawn about them so that they can protest it.
The old joke applies to these thin skinned overreactors:
"A waiter goes up to a table of Middle Easterners and asks 'Is ANYTHING alright."
