Avant Garde, M and I very much look forward to gettingpets at our next

home.  He loves dogs, and Labs are such gentle souls.  We plan on getting a pound puppy someday and a cat.  Addy, the owners' dog at the coffee shop also had to take a backseat to the babies when they were born, before she was Cam's dog, and she was the center of attention. They don't neglect her, but they defintiely don't  have the time or energy for her that they did, and honestly she's calmer now (she is a very high strung dog, not sure of her breed, some kind of Australian heeler or something).

I can see how losing Cocoa was hard for you and your wife.  I hate any kind of animal cruelty and as hard as it is for me to speak up and say something is wrong in person, I finally had a word with the boyfriend of the woman who has locked her dog in her car twice.  He tried to deny any knowledge at first and said  that there was no dog in his car, in other words back pedal and weasel, but I know that is it his girlfriend who lives in his apartment, so I cut him off, and said, "I meant the dog your girlfriend leaves in her Honda in the parking lot. Please, don't leave your dog in the car, it could kill him".  ]

I wasn't angry, I just let him know that I knew, and that other people are concerned for the wellbeing of animals, who are helpless and depend on their owners common sense and caring.

My Goodness
If it is not madness, it is not love.  Emotions are truly a wonderous and terrific phenomenon.  I have, with a lot of work gotten a better grip on my own, still, I face many a day heavy laden and dripping with emotion...

Avant
A deeply moving story that is truly cathartic in its effect that it leaves behind. Very well presented and very well taught lesson.

I guess that's the price I have to pay in order to feel as if it were worthwhile to write.

I can see why!

You writing was very descriptive and I could feel your emotion and connection  just reading it.

I knew this would be hard ground to cover for the pet lovers. But, I was unprepared as well when it happened. I know your cats cherish the love you give them.

Nice pet names. My wife likes either food names or kids' names.

Losing Cocoa was very sad. I grieved for a long time over her. I see people who treat thier pets terribly and think nothing of it. It's very sad.

Avant, these are really tough to read but, there is feeling that seeks expression, lessons that need teaching. MoonSpirit

avant--
this was very touching but I had a hard time getting through this as it brought back the painful memory of needing to euthanize my beloved 18 year old cat. It doesn't matter how much time we have with them, it's always too soon to say goodbye. But being with them in the end, as difficult as it may be for us, is a beautiful parting gift.

avant-garde, After Chipper died at age 13, I never wanted another another pet.  Its too hard to see one go.  Then Pitiful entered my life.   Whether I wanted her or not, she was there.  Maybe this time I'll go first.

Your story is very sad but enforces the vision that life may end on earth but love remains thorough eternity.

Avant-Garde, you live your life with your eyes open to everyone around you
As the song goes, "Living with eyes closed is easy'.  It's bearing witness, and living with an open heart that takes courage.  Cocoa was lucky to have you.

avant-..saying good bye to a beloved pet isnt any easier than saying
good bye to a family member or friend (of course our pets are both...:), that's for sure....

Butter's doing quite well lately. He doesn't seem to be in any pain. But, he isn't a complainer, either. Thanks for offering.

Avant....

Another beautiful and terribly sad story. You seem to have had a special connection with her as she showed you she was still near in spirit. I sometimes feel the presence of some of my animals that have passed on.  It is a bit comforting. You are a sponge for life's lessons Avant as every situation in our life is an opportunity for growth. One more thing....you have to stop making me cry with your stories. LOL.

PS. How is Butterscotch doing? Anytime you feel that she could use a healing please let me know!
