Pat
I don't boil them down to sauce.  I kind of stew them up so I can use them for chili, goulash, etc...  The mixer might still work though.

No.
When I want to mash potatoes, I use the portable mixer.  :)  But tomatoes do mash easier.  Have you got a blender?  That would make sort work of them if you're cooking them down into sauce. :)

bel,
I noticed RckyMountain, of all people, talking about an electric potato masher. Gotta get myself one of those! (I do some cooking, you know!) Of course, that electric p.m. may not be quite as useful as my electric comb, but still...

Wow. I really am betty crocker, ain't I?

While up north I made meat loaf and mashed potatoes...from scratch. With real butter and half and half, thank you. My bf's kids were IN AWE of my gravy. YOU made this? H O W ??

LOL poor kids've never had real food before.

We are making pickles tomorrow.

LOL Passion
I make my own butter!  Did you use milk or half and half?  Mashed potatoes are just too much work for one person.  I used to go to my brother in laws for dinner last year when I wanted them.

I used real butter in mine too.

I made mashed potatoes once Bel...
That time I made the pot roast.

You are deprived!  Tell her to try the Country Crock in the tubs.  Those are fairly close to real.

My point exactly Blackcat
I threw mine out last week because it had all the use I could get out of it, but I forgot to buy another one.  Without potatoes are lumpy.

My mother owned one years ago, but I haven't seen it in ages. I know for a fact Queen V doesn't have one. The mashed potatoes she prepares come from a box.

How can you make mashed potatoes without one? Sure, you can use
a mixer, but don't you have to mash them first?

Yup Bel they do, it's like a mixer except it has an up and down motion.
You know what...I never use it and still use my hand masher.

Bel, I do but I call lit a bean masher now.  It was a potato masher until the 1980's when I began doing some volunteer work at a mission on KC's West Side.  Then I learned that it was not a potato masher but a bean masher.    Now, I guess its a tomato masher.  LOL

Rcky
I didn't even know they made them in electric form.

Hi Bel....I still have one but I have to admit I must have had it for
at least a dozen years. However, I now have an electric masher too. Boy, you are one busy lady!

Shelly
It USED to be a basic kitchen utensil.  You use it to smash up your mashed potoatoes before using the mixer.
