I have been reading your material since before you were Xeno-x and have never doubeted your deep sense of all things spiritual.  You express that very well.   Now, and here comes a blatant ad for another blog of mine outside Blogit, I have just written about Religion versus Spirituality

See what you think.

Bhaskar.ing you are so right

maybe it's like a planet -- we aim for a planet with space probes in order for the planet to give a gravitational boost so that the spaceship will shoot off to its destination faster.

the apostle Paul likened the law to a governess type individual whose job was to guide the youth to maturity -- then let go.

here -- people embrace the physical -- the law -- an artifact -- an idol -- it draws them to a belief system -- a focus -- but the true purpose should be to point people past the artifact to what is represented beyond it.

such idols are not bad.  just people are better served when they recognize the tue nature of the idol.

For many, odol worship, images are required to see the unmanifest behind all manifestation. God has created every single individual with some differences - in form, in mind and in spirit, meaning thereby, of different temperaments. So He too does not expect that all should worship Him and have faith in Him in the very same manner. After all everything that any individual thinks or does ultimately reaches Him.

actually, afzal50 , that is true
an image can help one to focus.  icons, items, artifacts, material things all, can be objects of focus and "gates" to the spiritual and such.
and can be utilized with great efficacy.
but then once one has focused, one must see past the image to the reality represented.

You are right in one sense but images are also required to create
awareness and emotional attachment to the abstract through tangible object .
