The main advantage is the brilliant clarity of sound and doing away
with pesky cassettes which perish or get mixed up. I don't have to hunt out a cassette everytime I need to record. I can immediately access any interview. The biggest advantage is that you download the interview onto the computer and then you can listen as you write. There is a little section which tells you how many minutes into the recording you are and you can move the counter along or go back far far easier than with the cassette. If I want to stop I can do itby moving a mouse rather than stopping and pressing the tape machine, If I transcribe I mark the time at regular intervals on the text so I can easily go back to that point of the recording. For me it is invaluable because my shorthand is crap and my handwriting is illegible.
I download a lot of radio programs which I catch up with on long drives. I have this old cassette thingy that I plug into the car cassette and the iPod and listen through the car speakers. If I can't sleep and I am away, I can listen to the iPod quielty without disturbing anyone. In spite of all that I don't flash it about. Yes you will love it when you get one

LOL! I refused to pay $20.00 for a pair of sandals I needed DESPERATELY the other day. I won't spend a fortune on anything and putting food in the house and buying the BIG container of Tide made me happy!
OK tell me about the IPOD. I LOVE music, and it's taking up much to much space on my hard drive. Plus I was considering buying a digital recorder. How does the IPOD work because until this minute I could not justify the expense.

I'd say the money was well spent. I love this neighborhood!!! Congratulations Bel, I know with your spirit and ethics, you'll put as much into the new effort as you're rewarded for it. Rain at the beach? Perfect. It's been so darn hot and dry here in the Midwest a walk in a gentle rain along a lapping surf sounds heavenly. :)

Congratulations on your new assignment. I can relate on the financial side - it has been a crunch time and I have an other half who also felt that he was letting us down but I too find that things turn up when you need them. Take it easy on thinking about how you'll use the money until it comes in. Earlier this year I had a fantastic project - the solution to all problems - until it fell through a couple of months in. I don't mean that as a dampener but just be wary.
Next week I have to find the money for my son's piano lessons and like you that stuff matters to me. No matter what else has to give, those lessons will happen.
I don't need big stuff either = a car that starts will do it for me. My daughter has a pink cellphone which I gave her for her 4th birthday . I found it at Target. She talks all day on that thing to all sorts of people and she has unlimited hours because it's a toy phone and the contact list is all in her imagination.
Now I do have an iPod but for me it is not something to pose with but a tool. I was given just enough cash a couple of years ago by my mother-in-law and so I took that chance while I had it. I bought a microphone for it and I record all of my interviews on it and then I can listen to them later. It's fantastic because it brings the conversation right back into my mind. This is helpful if there is a gap between the interview and when I write, or if the subject is technical, and most particularly because I am slowly losing my marbles and memory.

Honestly over the years I have read and heard about things like this happening to OTHER people! I never ever believed I was even worthy of such a wonderful thing.
I'm still pinching myself but what I can say is that these things happen even when the dream seems so out of reach never, ever stop reaching or dreaming!

Buy all her clothes at Old Navy, it's a fine store. That's where my grandchildren get their clothes. My daughter is a supervisor there. haha

I'm so happy for you. I think it takes courage to believe in your dreams and not just that but also to believe that you are good enough to receive.
I hope more people will do the same thing you did....write it down....believe in it....just be receptive to things that come your way. I think some people even refuse the opportunities and help that comes their way.
