It's crazy the way jewelry is marked up.  Even at K-mart.  Then they give you those 70% off sales to make it look like you're getting a real bargain.
Oh yes, this bracelet is worth $150? At 70% off, that's still $62....I don't THINK so!

I despise the "salesman" who rants and raves and uses terms like "I'll do whatever it takes to earn your business"  For you, I would not sell one for cost, I would however show you what that amount was and work out a fair profit.

I just love the scare tactics that people employ in an attempt to convince you that you need their product

The key is...
The sales person.  If thier emphasis is on SALES, then they will run roughshod over you to get a name on the dotted line.  I have been shopping and only run into two of these pushy people.  One thing they don't count on is you knowing what you want.  They expect to tell you what you want.  We are stuck on a color and that threw the salesman.  He desparately wanted to sell us a car, and had the one we were looking at had the right colors, I would have made him give me the deal of the century.  After all he said he would do what it takes to get us into a car.  Would he have given me dealer cost on a Camry Hybrid?  That's what it would have taken for him to make the sale and I don't think they do that on those.

I don't think it's so much about being lame ...

as it is simply not caring enough (about cars).  I just let my father, and now brother, buy the cars for me.

I do pick the color, however.

'Cause I'm just a girl, I'd rather not be
'Cause they won't let me drive
Late at night. I'm just a girl,
Guess I'm some kind of freak
'Cause they all sit and stare
With their eyes.

I worked in sales

I worked for Sears and moved from hand tools to power tools.  I had difficulty getting men to take me seriously when it came to tools because I was female.  This was a part time job that kept me going during layoffs from my regular job as a CARPENTER!!!!  I finally took to wearing my union pin on my vest which then would open the topic of WHY I was wearing a UBC pin.  In general I knew more about those tools than half of the customers and 90% of my male co-workers.  Once the customer got to know me they would call and find out what my schedule was before coming in, but it was a struggle!

As for cars or any major purchase Carl and I make those joint decisions, I also have a friend who works for a Ford Dealership that takes good care of us when the time comes.  I guess I am spoiled because I have never had to deal with that issue.

Women are not lame, men are archaic!!!  LOL!

It's so easy now. All you need to do is print the cost sheet from
Edmunds.com and have it with you.
