Thank you Pat_B.  All is well - a little jaded by the exhausting heat and have forgotten what humour is, but apart from that everything is tickety-boo. ( Now there's an expression you haven't seen before Pat, and I don't know from which part of my deranged memory I dragged it up).

Thanks jacenta.  What I need to do now is take my own advice and go through the ceiling.

johnmcnab...
Your post is unique and encouraging.  I like it. Yes, we should duck under and see for ourselves.  Just think of how much more could be accomplished and achieved.

How did I miss this wonderful post? The longer we live the less we have to lose.

Don't ponder 'the bottom was never there' Blanche.  Instead remember that 'neither is the ceiling.'

JohnMcNab, "The bottom has never been there", I'm still pondering that

but your metaphor isn't clumsy.  It's right on.  Fear stops me from doing a lot of things that I know I will regret having not done.  It's simply a matter of "Feeling the fear and doing it anyway"as the book title goes.

I think the guy who asked you "At your age, why bother?"  really didint' get the nature of fear either.  Congratulations.
