Yes, they do
I think death signifies an unhappy ending to a marriaage rather than an unhappy marriage

They do, and they can
But it depends a lot on the two.
Marriage takes trust, communication, some good common interests, sacrifice, commitment.....to name a few.

Marriage/monogamy doesn't seem to be a very natural state to me ...

Or, for that matter, an especially enlightened one.

missjohn

Well, all I can say is that Lady Ariela and I have been married for 36 years, and we're still happy. So, yes, definitely, they do exist!

I agree, and I come from
a 'broken' home.

I work at my marriage, I may poke fun at it, and joke at it's expense, but I still believe in the tradition and sanctity of marriage, and wouldn't have it any other way.

Denial only exists in Hindsight

I've grown up knowing nothing but broken or unfaithful marriages in my family. Blind faith, perhaps, but I believe happy marriages exist.

That, or I'm cocooning myself in self-comfort in desparate hope that mine will be a happy and lasting one.

There is little that one can do about death
So, I would venture to say those were still happy marriages.  Yes, happy marriages do exist but they take WORK!  One has to make a choice to have a happy marriage.
