Arley, to which I would counter:

For samplers, America is stronger by:

  • Elimination of a major supporter of terror.
  • Elimination of a weapons program that the terrosits counted on for arms, WMD and otherwise.
  • By extension: Substantial weakening of the terrorists' ability to attack us.
  • Since you mention oil: Elimination of a regime that had no qualms about seizing control and destroying its neighbors reserves.
  • Establishment of a freindly government in the heart of the Middle East.
  • Clear message sent to other nations that had been sympathetic to terrorism that they must change their ways. Remember what Libya did?

And I seem to recall that America was weakened by 3,000 civilian deaths, thousands more civilians injured, billions of dollars in property loss, massive losses to the stock market and the billions of dollars in pensions and retirements that it helps fund, and the enormous costs of added security measures that are still and will continue to be in effect, all because of the war declared on us by al Qaeda and its supporters - including the Baathist regime in Iraq.

My military background? Proud-beyond-words father of an airman in the United States Air Force who loves his country so much that he enlisted following September 11th. He had the high honor of serving two tours of duty in Iraq, including a stint of helping several villages learn about democracy preparatory to the elections. He plans to re-enlist as an officer when he gets his college degree.

Writer

America is weaker by 2500 dead young men and women. By almost 20,000 mained and wounded, by the 200,000 thousand family members who look to our leaders and question their motives as their bury their dead loved ones, or assist their disabled offspring.

America is weakened by the 100 billion dollar debt we can't afford to pay right now. Money we spent for a war to keep our gas prices low. Well the gas price is low, but our taxes went up, and inflation went up, and national credibility went down.

Writer, I don't know your affiliation with the military, I don't know your personal background, but from first hand experience, when the mortars are falling in on you, and your buddies are screaming or lying silent in pools of their own blood, you know all the way to your soul that politics and oil are truly lousy reasons to kill people or to measure your country's strenghth.

I bid you peace and understanding. Arley White

Pretty tight competition, if you ask me!
Not to mention Ringside Harry, Softschumer, Splash Kennedy, Nancy P, Barbara Boxershorts and the rest of them.

WriterofLight, It's a walk off homer!
I said it then (2004) and I'll say it again.  Kerry is almost as big an idiot as Al Gore!
