My deepest thanks to your nephew.  This is a scary time for those new to the military, but in my opinion there is also nothing more honored of a profession.  He will be in my thoughts and prayers.

This is such good reporting of the heartfelt words coming from Carl's heart! You must feel pride knowing that your husband trusts you to share his thoughts on a subject that is personal in his heart. My nephew has just enlisted and I would be honored to share these thoughts with him. Thank you for posting this and many blessings to both of you for your continued support of our country. PostSmile!

I have had to be somewhat careful on the things I say, as we are discouraged even as family members from getting into heated political debates.

It is a shame for the people of Iraq, they really do want some kind of freedom yet they are still so very, very afraid.

Thank you and Carl  so very much for this. The bad mouthing from the states particularly those who say they hate the war but support the troops do not support the troops. They are underminding the whole effor with their own personal selfish adgendas. I have always been rather good at softening my responses. LOL  How do they ever think these people will see they can govern themselves. We send such a bad message from the leftists.....

This was Carl's story not mine.  I am very good at putting out my own opinions but only when it is about me LOL!

thanks so much!

Bel -
Thanks for a peak inside, without any media bias, one way or the other.

Thank you so much for your kind words.  It's hard to imagine that you won't be here much longer.  I shall truly miss you.

Hi Bel.....I learned plenty about military life through your posts....
You express yourself very nicely. And I can't even try to imagine the special people it takes to join the armed services, or marry a soldier and have a family, and to pray your loved ones return home safely. Those are not easy thing to go through. I am delighted your Carl is back home and I wish you a long, happy life. Thanks again...

And in turn you words and appreciation mean more than you will ever know. Thank you.

Carl doesn't want glory or recognition, he simply wants others to understand.  He has been approached for many, many interviews and his answer always has been..only if I can approve the reporter first.  The problem is he doesn't trust anyone but me to tell the story because he knows even if I disagree, I try not to slant anything when I interview someone.

After a bad incident I had with a reporter last year when I threw him off of my property we are both fairly cautious.

Bel 1965,

I appreciate your family's service more than you know.

This is a marvelous message from Carl, straight from his soul and heart.

God bless you both.

I think his goal now, is to see that this story, just as told to you, gets out to EVERY person by every piece of media in the U.S.A. , Canada, the world.

Powerful, helpful, educational words and I agree. This really isn't about WMD's at all. It is about terrorism and how evil it all is.

It is about our culture in North America and how we will all have to fight to keep it, or be willing to die trying to. Like Carl, I too would serve again, even now at 70, if they would take me. Luv ya,s

What they are instructed to do is to talk about what they "know".   There are certain things they are not supposed to talk about but those things involve logistics and security issues for obvious reasons.  Beyond that, they are allowed to talk with the media if they so choose.

There may be some units that discourage it, but the Army as whole simply asks that they stick to what they know instead of conjecture.

Interesting conversation
Thanks for posting this. Blogs offer a good outlet for soldiers to tell their stories.
I was under the impression that they are not allowed to or discouraged from talking to the media. Was that case with Carl?

The source of my greatest frustration (not counting my 12 year old daughter) is the media and how they cover the situation.  Carl has told me so much and while the media cover PART they seldom cover the whole story.

wow... good interview. It's too bad that all we ever get is media spin.
Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you.  Carl is usually more than willing to give his thoughts, what troubles him are those that ASSUME they know what he thinks or feels.

Please thank Carl for us for discussing these issues so frankly.
