Blogging reflects reality?
If you extend your observation to the world outside our little site you will notice that on TV as well, the trash gets the best ratings.  Can't figure that one out either.

Why blog?
When you take a look at blogs out there, many people blog about their own lives. I have several friends who share much of their lives with whomever wishes to visit their pages -- everything from photos, to poems, to pain, to dreams, to their latest love, the most minute details of their breakfast yesterday.

It's true that not everyone here is a writer. Some wish to improve their writing, and for them, there's a vehicle. Check out Undone's Writer's Corner. Others just wish to spout random thoughts, and others are here to chronicle their lives -- past, present, and/or future.

It's a weblog. What do you do with a weblog, or any log for that matter? You write whatever you want to write. I have kept literally a dozen logs of possible storylines for when I retire and spend my days writing to my heart's content. My brother spends much of his time keeping a log of his thoughts as well.

It's possible that some spend time here to grow relationships, and why not? Most of us share much of our personality through our writing, whether it's our true self or a fantasy version. It's a good thing we have all of these people with their different reasons for being here. It would be a shame to see the writing get cold and stale if they weren't here.

I think there are some bloggers who do both those things...
Some bloggers do seem to be here just to mess around, sort of like a cyber singles bar (for mostly non-singles!).  Others are here just to write.  Period.  But I think most of us do a little of both (some more on one side than another).  I personally like the interaction - to an extent - and, I admit, some of my blogs are, shall we say, silly?  Yes, that sounds about right. :) But I have a few that balance out the nonsense.  I think the BN is whatever you want to make of it, really.  The more vocal bloggers do tend to be a bit sillier, but there are a lot of more serious writers who interact with one another on a less volumatic sort of way :)

Realtionships
Think you are correct, Cynthia. Most bloggers are not writers - they are lonely, bored people looking for friendship, love and all that fuzzy relationship stuff in the wrong place. Some of them great hurt, too!

Some folks are here to build relationships.
They don't really write. They do what I call "meta writing" it's all about itself. It goes nowhere beyond here. They have a lot of time on their hands and they tend to be as antagonistic here in their BN relationships as they probably are in the outside world I'm sure, otherwise they would have too much meaningful stuff going on in their actual lives to bother with this.

Difference
None.  And what difference does it make what I blog about, or what I think about other blogs, for that matter?  I just prefer reading substance to trash, and sometimes trash vastly outnumbers substance.  Only my opinion, ya heah?

what difference does it really make in the price of peanut butter what we blog about?

Drift?  Chris, your drift is in the Gulf of Mexico building into a tropical depression that will build into a hurricane and eat the state I live in off of the map.  By the way, Florida looks like a slick "Willie". . .LOL

And,

I have some articles that I wrote here if I didn't delete them, that hung about at around 1517 in the rankings *I didn't even think were that many of us here*.  You go figure.  The top bloggers here and I'm not one of them, are also excellent authors but why waste it.  Everyone prefers Jerry Springer or Judge Judy. . .or the Globe.

You tell me,

respectfully and welcome aboard again,

Willow

Send it back

Drift?  I got Drift!  My friends say I'm so drifty, I should live at the beach.  I sort of understand what you wrote, but still can't figure why someone would prefer to read zilch when they've got some really interesting stuff to read instead.

Kind of like choosing to eat cardboard when you are surrounded by your favorite foods.

My friend, think of BN as a club.  Do not think of it as a magazine or newspaper.  Hey, what's the point in doing something that gets done by everyone else, if you catch my drift.

If you do catch my drift, would you be kind enough to send it back to me?  Thanks.

Peaceniks
Mightyholywarrior (great name!), that is so true and so ironic.  I now some of the more violent people in my area are those who are members of PETA!

Archiew, One Of The Things That Amazes Me Is That Some Of The People Who

pick fights around here are vehemently opposed to the military conflict in Iraq. Some of them are always espousing that the world should be a peaceful place in which everyone loves each other.
