Hi, Corbin,
After reading the comments from Talion and Mademoiselle, below, I feel much more enlightened.  I even learned the definition of "lipstick lesbian".  Wow.  Blogit bloggers rule.  :)

Mademoiselle
The rest of the article did go into the publishers desire to be representing various groups....They have changed characters like The Atom and others to represent ethnic groups. Old characters are now hispanic, black and oriental.

I Do Not Read the Comics
As I child I did not care for them, so I will not be a reader regardless to view.  Thanks for the information.

Let's be honest for a second ...

This has zero to do with the PC police (or, even, with trying to reach the gay audience), and everything to do with luring teenage boys with the promise of "hot girl-on-girl action".

Apparently, you missed the interview Bill O'Reilly did with the "women of The L Word".  My mother lost all respect for him after that.

There are two kinds of light ...
the glow that illuminates,
and the glare that obscures.

A "lipstick lesbian" is overtly feminine as opposed to the masculine "butch" type. I don't know the reasons why they decided to go with the lesbian angle, but I'm sure it has more to do with sales than bowing to PC pressure. There have been other gay heroic characters as well as others with less than "noble" traits such as alcoholism, drug addiction, victims of abuse, even one with AIDS. Comic books haven't been for kids in decades.

Corbin, there are plenty of good comic book heroes coming...
down the pike from Marvel (see my entertainment post of today)...I dont know all their backgrounds, but here's hoping for good things from them!

Cool
I normally can't stand DC comics, but this sounds like it should be a good one.

Just so you know both DC and Marvel have had a few gay super heroes.  In fact the ex-Girlfriend of Spider-Man's, The Black Cat, has more or less been shown to be bisexual.

So this really isn't that big of a deal.
