jacenta
Isn't it silly, jacenta, that people now walk about with cellphones and water bottles strapped to their belts, not to mention iPods and Blackberries and whatever else.  Tap water tastes good to me.

Pat
I do prefer your description of my mind as 'interesting.'  Ell just shakes her head at me and whispers 'weird.'

John, you have a very interesting mind...
and fortunately there's so much to explore, so much that is weird, you'll never run out of material. :)

johnmcnab....

Good Morning.  I enjoyed reading your post.  A variety,  to think about this morning.

By the way........................

I don't put sugar in my coffee.  I drink it black.  I put a sugar substitute in my oatmeal & cold cereal, although I seldom eat cold cereal, maybe only once every six months.  I dislike any of the pre-sweetened kinds of cereals now, but I loved them when I was little. I don't eat syrup on my pancake, just one soft egg on top.  The yoke is good on the pancake. hahahah  I only eat a candy bar when my hubby buys one and we split it or my son sends me a bag of those tiny candy bars from another state.  He knows I can't resist chocolate or fig bars, so that is what he sends me. hahahah

I've never heard of the vanilla water that Taps was telling about. My aunt use to make us jello water to drink.

I drink our own well water, but lately it has been the in thing around here to buy bottles of water.  I'd rather drink the water from the tap.  Guess I am a bit set in my ways, you think? hahahahha   Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TAPS
Thank you Taps.  Your comment dredged up a memory just like yours only my mother called it 'sugarelly water.'   We didn't have coke bottles..sigh...we didn't even have bottles.....sob, sob. - just kidding .....only just.

I haven't tried Caramel Machiatos, Blanche, but that would be because I'm an old duffer too set in his ways - as my daughter told me last week.  I made a mistake when I visited my first Starbucks, and had two cups of coffee - I was wired all day.  Now I prefuer the bland taste of Tim Hortons, mainly because it is easier to ask for a 'medium, double, double' than go through Starbucks menu.

Johnmcnab, I just love your type of logic and the questions that you ask.    You reminded me of something I had forgotten.   When I was a child, my mom made us vanilla water and put it in empty coke bottles.   She said coke wasn't that good for us.   She would put a few drops of  pure vanilla extract and a bit of sugar in plain water and we loved it.

JohnMcnab, I just had this very conversation last night with Gideon
He can't stand the taste of coffee, but it's so ubiquitious here in Seattle that he can't avoid making runs to Starbucks for coworkers and he was asking me for a way to get the caffeine without the flavor, I recommended Caramel Machiatos (I personally don't care for sugary coffee drinks, but if a buzz is what you're after without all that pesky taste, then syrup and milk it is! )

Azur
A good Scottish porridge is delicious with milk, but I have seen friends sprinkle sugar on top, and I've shuddered at the sight.

So many questions to ponder
I have often thought about the tea issue as I have seen people brew tea or coffee until you could stand the spoon in it then add milk and enough sugar to kill the bitterness. Most of the big brands are like sawdust. It doesn't have to be like that.
As for milk, at the moment I enjoy adding chocolat. Breakfast cereals are strange. What of  a good sturdy porridge?

Dear Johnmcnab ,    An interesting anecdote. It is normal for the scientifically curious minds  to dabble with the physical world  in order to seek the answer.---Karldean.
