Depends how aberrant their mindset is, DarrkeThoughts. Psychopaths and
sociopaths approach victims for different reasons and value the experience differently.  I'm not an expert on the mind, but I would dare say there are many gradations of mental disorders, neurotic and psychotic, that might cause people to act in this manner.  One of them, I am sure, is that they think of it as "fun".

Thanks, Spitfire. I have no problem with solitary, except my money (and
yours) pays for it and they get to tune into their fantasies anytime because they have nothing better to do.  But otherwise, and if there is no alternative (such as would be with the abolition of the death penalty), I am all for total and unequivocable solitary confinement.

brettnik, even in our modern "America's Most Wanted" society, sometimes
people slip through the cracks and holes of our technology.  Read Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury.  Amazingly prescient look at television, illiteracy, government control, and criminality in the age of television from several decades back.

I always wonder
what in the world are these people thinking when they do this stuff..is it just "fun" or what?

Saul, of course I agree that these assholes are as

you described. I agree with you on everything accept for the fact that we should just put those Son's of B'es to death immediately. Yeah, they may relive their acts in their minds, but they're also sentenced to living the remainder of their life alone, lonely, and to ponder what they did wrong. BORING if ya ask me. Solitary confinement? Cool. Give them a lifetime of it. Killing them is too easy. It's letting them off the hook way too easy. Let the bastards like this sit and sit and sit and sit and sit.....

Great post. Great topic.

What a story. How'd they get away with it so long?

I'm all for it, white-cossack. However, you'll never get it by the ACLU.
Cruel and inhumane, don't ya know.  They might strangle to death (so?).  It might take a while (so?).  Asphyxiation and going cyanotic are not pretty (neither is a murder scene).  They say it makes us no better than the murderer; I say justice served is not bloodlust, nor do I prefer it.  I'd prefer that murders never occur.

I got a rope!

Personally I think a sentence of "life imprisionment" is just wrong.  Why should the honest citizen PAY hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep each of these individuals in prison for life, providing education, healthcare and entertainment (for most of them). A rope is a reusable resource, not loud, and used effectively would save hundreds of millions of dollars AND would quickly reduce the overcrowding in our nation's prisons.

I subscribe to public executions, while the object lesson would not stop all criminals of that caliber, it would sure show justice with finality.  Let them drop or let them kick as you haul them up, in either case its a hideous end and more generous to most of them than they were to their victims.

Yeah, Nautikos, I remember when Homlka was released and told the
press she wanted to resume her life, blah, blah, blah.  I wrote about it.  What is so terrible about the Bernardo/Homolka case is that it was her sister, the sick bitch.

Saul,
reminds me of a case we had here in Canada, at Toronto and St. Catharines, in the early '90s. Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, his wife, raped, tortured and then murdered several girls, including Karla's sister! Bernardo is in for life (we have no capital punishment in Canada), but Karla made a deal with the prosecution and is out now...

Google it, bel, or go on whatever ISP you have and type in the names of
the two perpetrators.  There's plenty of stories there.  Bill O'Reilly was fired up last night talking about them (they hadn't been captured by the time he'd aired).

I haven't been following this story
Your recap is very vivid.  I not only have chills but a terrible knot in my stomach.
