Privacy is a thing of the past

and this is one of the reasons that I cannot stand credit cards. Financial institutions are really bad about sharing your name with other companies.

VISA is a non-profit corporation that is best described as a purchasing and marketing coalition of its member banks. VISA issues no credit cards itself - all VISA cards are issued by member banks. VISA does not set terms and conditions for its member banks, the banks can do pretty much as they please in signing cardholders. All VISA charges are ultimately approved by the card issuer, regardless of where the purchase was made. Many smaller banks share their account databases with larger banks, third parties, or VISA itself, so that the bank doesn't have to provide authorization facilities itself. These third parties often pass your name around to other institutions to aid in expanding business, and annoying the heck out of consumers.

I agree...

What do we think the "Kroger Plus Card, or the gas station card that gives you cents off a gallon of gas is all about.....Are these companies doing this for fun?  Because they care about their "Loyal" customers?

No...they make more on the data they accumulate and sell to their suppliers....than what there are giving away.   Do we think it's a coincidence that a coupon comes out to us at check out for the very brand of paper towels we haven't purchased in a while???

But for the left to portray this re-issued NYTimes story being ogled over is pure BS.  And the fact that they know it is....is an example of how they put the desperate hope of regaining control of a house of Congress ahead of the safety of the very people they supposedly represent.

Trust me on this one....they will live to regret heading back into this territory.

I want our gov. to continue to connect the dots but I do not like the idea of every store we shop at having our data on hand to keep or sell at their disgression.

What was your point?
The guys had their information right there for all to see and no one noticed it.  No laws could have made their phone numbers more available to any group from what you said here.

What are you trying to say needs to be done?  If their phone numbers are listed with their real names, anyone can find that information. I think you had one name that might have raised some attention (the visa violator) otherwise what of that information you gave would have made any difference at all?  Unless you are claiming we should just assume that anyone with a Muslim name should be considered a terrorist.

I really have no clue as to what point you thought you were making.  I saw no evidence that taking away our rights to privacy would have changed a thing about 9/11.  None of what you said here would make me believe that you can catch possible terrorist this way.

Oh, and I do not think Home Depot should be able to get into that kind of information without your approval either.
