Reply to "Immigrants Are Here"...
I just read your comment and I think you are missing the point.  We are all immigrants from somewhere originally.  My family came from different parts of Europe, primarily Ireland and England, but that was a different time and place.  The issue at hand is that those here illegally are costing our country big time and they aren't being taken advantage of near as much as they are taking advantage of this nation.

I notice your handle is in reference to John 3:16.  I am a Christian as well but that doesn't mean we are to sit back and do nothing when someone is doing wrong.  God gave us this country but He expects us to take care of it and we can't do that if we have too many people to take care of.  And, the people we are talking about don't want to become Americans really, they just want the advantages without giving back and that is wrong!

Giving them legal status isn't going to change the fact that  they came in illegally and it basically gives them authorization to break more laws.  If they can break this law, why shouldn't they break others.  And they are.  I live in the middle of them and they could care less about our laws.  Their businesses break our laws as I stated in an earlier posting.

If we don't stand up for what's right and not allow them to break our laws, we will just encourage their lawlessness and we will be the ones who suffer from it.

Immigrants are here...

...and their numbers are hard to ignore and it's not just Latinos and it's not just illegals. In some areas their communities are so well-established (regardless of nationality or ethnicity) that they can live and find work without using very much English. This goes for Chinese, Indian, Korean, latino etc. You can't force them to use English any more than they can force you to speak their languages.

It would be to a foreigner's advantage to become fluent in English if it is not his first language. So it's really up to them.

You will find business people putting out advertising in foreign languages in order to get immigrants' money. No businessman cares what language you speak when you come into his store with money to spend. He will try his best to understand whatever language you speak so that he can make the sale. Even if you just point at what you want and hold up the right number of fingers to tell him how many you want to buy, he can make the sale and he is happy to do so.

And on the other hand, when immigrants own businesses, they try to speak as much English as they can so that you are able buy from them. Money is a universal language.

The ones who are illegal are getting ripped off. They don't have the legal status so the companies pay them half of what they are worth, they a making a killing on the cheap labor but no one is helping them to become legal, so they are protesting and it's making everyone angry. Including the immigrants who took the time and expense to come legally.

Excellent comment, writersblok.
It's an issue of OBEYING THE LAW, not an issue of racism.  Obviously, half the country doesn't seem to have a clue.

It's a problem when the immigration debate is turned into a race issue!
It is not! It is an issue of legality. Do you live in Texas or California?
