Sorry to hear about your friend's troubles.
No, I don't believe in hexes or curses at all. But I do believe that life piles up problems at times in a random way. As a family, we've had more than our fair share over this past year, but we've had clear periods in the past and will have joyous log-jams in the future, I'm sure. It's no help to your poor friend, but life doesn't happen in a steady flow of balanced good and bad. She's done nothing to deserve it except be a human being.
