antony 1 wiley I hear you. Often we would begin a business so we

could have the time we needed to do what we had to do with our families and then work all sorts of hours over to make up the difference.

Good for you if USA & Canada keep giving the jobs away we will be sitting here wondering what happened. Some of those anti-war protesters should look at some of the real issues here at home. I too believe in them but I am ready to see if there are any people who care what is going on. Let me know when you find a computer mfg co that has no outsourcing.

Try this on for size: The USA just made a $50,000,000 grant to Westing House, who was an American company from the outset, but is now owned by UK investors. The grant was to build two Atomic reactors in China and will be co-owned by Indian and Russian interests. If that is not crazy what is?

Kingmi that is a great story. I can't believe people who
believe you can settle a war, make a living, raise children and own a home without lifting a hand or if one does get a job they can not be fired. They need to get a life. I am sure there were situations in that candy store that taught you some good problem solving skills later in life, as well as, self reliance. Thank you for sharing this.

Justsouno

Worked as a self employed entrepreneur for about 25 years of my life. Nothing but work, work, work, no handouts, no safety net. Paid my share with my woman and we raised 9 kids.

Now I was going to buy a new Dell computer, until I saw the proud ads they have about 6,000 new telephone jobs for Dell going to India.

Good for India, good for Dell.

But hey, I'm still one of those who still believes in  America, Canada and God.

There must be computers  being made here or at least manufacturers that keep people employed here

Justsouno, Our dad made us have a penny candy store every summer.
I remember taking deliveries from the Pop man out of Des Moiones.  I went with my parents one day when they were going to stop at the wholesaler and buy more stuff.  Lik-um-aid, tootsie rolls, and tootsie roll pops, chewing gums, and ring-pops.  All very clear in my memory.  We made change, cleaned the area (a cellar outside the house), and once were robbed and had to solve the mystery.  It was very educational.

FLIGHTPATH, Mine began in the 1940s when rationing was the
thing. I began more than one business, made it to feed, clothe, house and school three children. I felt that was a success, at least by my standard. It never occurred to me to get housing voucher, food stamps etc., because I had three children and no husband. But times are different.

Imagine starting a business during the 1930s Depression - and succeeding - big time! My parents did it and so have many others, depression times or not.
