Corbin I've made this observation too.
Somehow there needs to be balance, and respect for the important role both sexes play.
Good post -- glad you're feeling better!

I never watch television period. And, even if I did, the portrayal of men would be of little consequence to me.

Corbin, I never see all this cause I fast forward through all commercials
or walk away and do something else while they're advertising something. I hate Hollywood's attempt to change my mind on anything.

Every commercial you see...
has been "test marketed" to death before airing. So blame the viewing audience, not the ad executives.
The same applies to the portrayal of men/fathers in films.

Corbin--Trouble is, 99% of the general public must not care or
even bother to think about how they are portrayed, or this wouldn't continue. To be honest, I never thought about it until my children got old enough to watch tv. Then I couldn't help but wonder, "Is this how I want my daughter or son to identify themselves?" That's when it all really hit home for me. I've spent alot of time letting my daughters know that looks aren't everything, and letting my son know that he is capapble of being whatever he wants--whether that be a hearty construction guy or a nurse.

Hahahhaha...Too bad the Marlboro man is dead...
That said, I understand everything you say. Just don't forget that--for every ad that potrays men as bimbo-ogling simpletons--there are five more that potray women as nothing more than sex objects. I think the advertising world uses gender to their advantage--playing on the roles to suit their own advantage.
Love your title.

Corbin_Dallas.....
How about bringing back the God-fearing man and the Godly woman?
That would do more to transform our wayward society than anything else.
Thanks and God Bless.....
