if the Adm,inistration says it is so, then it is so.
odd -- i thought the administration could not tap U.S. citizens phones in any manner without either a warrant or subsequent approval by the special court.
they have done neither.
they have, therefore violated the rights of U.S. citizens from unreasonable search and seizure.
it doesn't matter if 99% of U.S. populace agrees -- if it breaks the law, it breaks the law.
if 60% of a town's voters thought penalties should not be incurred for breaking laws, from speeding to rubbery, then should those laws be ignored?
they are the law.
i remamber one time a majority of the populace thought that the government was right in taking away people's rights -- actually two times
both of them in the 1930's.
Naxi Germany and Soviet Russia.
I think maybe this attitude should join them in the graveyard of history.

kooka_lives, I agree with you that security is only an illusion. How could
we be secure with terrorists pouring over the Rio Grande by the scores?  Yet I do not fathom what freedoms we have lost.  You say the American people have adopted security at the loss of freedom.  I say they never had either, and have lost neither.

Your post really shows that a true free America is lost because the people have become scared and are acting childish, with no wish to be free nay more if it means they are being told they are protected.

I wish I could say I do not believe the statistics you have posted here, But I do.  It shows that America has lost so much in the way of values and reason all because of one event.

This is not something to be proud about, but something to mourn over.  The American people are saying 'Take me freedoms from me, if you promise I will be safe'. They do not want to face the truth that the realty is that we are no more safer now than we were at the time of 9/11.  But the American people do not wish to think about that.  They would rather believe in the illusion and that is where the real problem lies.
