You are so right

and this even permeates private schools. Our eldest son went to a private primary school for a while and I got a severe backlash from Head, teachers and other parents for cheering him on at sports day. The idea of 'I took part' is a complete nonsense and I wonder how many of those people will be disappointed in 2012 when we become the worst host nation; but, hey, we took part in the Olympics!

We are competitive and so are our children and no state or sub-culture is going to kill that. As Ian Wright used to say, 'if I'm just here to take part I may as well be a ball boy.'
