Meringue,
The United States is a great land period! To tell someone the truth I don't care if they think the United States is great or not. They can  have there boat raised by the rising tide of the United States or they can get left behind. We are helpful to everyone around the world. We want to see all nations do well. That is not a matter of opinion. That is a matter of fact. These are some strong words I know, but the United States is that great, and strong.

Well, it is s great land in the eyes of its citizens,
and that is only natural. Try asking the rest of the world:)

Thanks flame-thrower,
The United States is a great land. We do many great things and we do some wrong things every now and then. But we always try to side with what is right. Sometimes that is not popular, but it is the way it happens. Thanks for the comment and your support.

Another Great write up . America is not the least imperialists as some might want to claim. I will be coming soon with an article in titled America's thankless job in the world. This is just to say and support your stand., for I think that instead of America   being whacked, it need to be appreciated. It is a pleasure having some one like you here. God Bless.

I guess corbin has said it best!
Thanks for the comments from all of you. We are not perfect, but we try to do what is best. There have been some huge mistakes made over the years by the United States. We have always done so with the best of intentions. Sometimes that may have meant supporting the lesser of two evils or some other scenario that in retrospect does not look good now. Sometimes I imagine we have played the percentages and lost the gamble. Day in and day out this great land has done the best it could to promote freedom and democracy around the world. I guess the telling thing about the United States is how many people want to come and live here, some even illegally. They know this is the "land of the free and the home of the brave."

Ya know...

It pretty easy to pick through history.....look for the warts and blemishes.  Tell me one country that has done any better.  Is there a human that hasn't done something in their lives that they regret or wish they'd never done.  We are not perfect.....there has been only one perfect man...and he died for the flaws in the rest of us.......

But please tell me one, that on the whole, has done as much as the US has in relationship to helping people in this world?

I don't understand how people can spend their entire lives only focusing on the negative in the world around them.....it has quite a life of it's own without help from any of us.

Not an imperial bone in our body?

"Throwing our weight around" surely has an imperial aspect, then and now. This country was started by an empire, and acted like one as we forged into the western American continent and took over portions of Mexico.

I agree that we are a good country that promotes freedom. But we have not always been consistent in doing so. Sometimes, for economic and other reasons, we have helped tyrants come to power (the Shah, in Iran, in 1954). If we're interested in promoting democracy around the world, we have to be willing to protect human rights and civil liberties regardless of economic interests.
