Comments on THE CASE FOR MARRIAGE AND CHILD LICENSES............

I do know, from direct observation, that the general rule of thumb
is that only the dumb and uglies reproduce at abandon; those who believe in responsibility carefully think this sort of thing through. Therefore, it seems to me that there should be classes and licensing for reproduction. I dunno, what if we loaded up the public water systems with birth control drugs, and provide the antidote only to those who have demonstrated their ability to rear children and live responsibly.

Of course, that could only happen on that special planet, but hey, why not dream a little?

Good post. Enjoyable reading, as always!

Glenb is the greatest ad for my blog I can think of.  Logic?  Facts?  Common sense?  I respect everyone's right to voice their opinion, but when you don't know what you are talking about, I have less respect for those opinions.

I feel another post coming on, but have to run.

Luv ya!  Never change.

BTW - Offbeats asked for my pic - I sent it - I think it scared her, but she is still a goddess!

TX--*laughing hilariously* May I introduce you to Glennie?

He's an angry little guy, but we "whitey maggots" can't help but enjoy his rants.  BTW--Your education means nothing to him, as he rarely (if EVER) argues with logic and facts.

Love,

Whity Maggot #2

(offbeats is #1)

Well, being a lawyer, having gotten top grades in two constitutional law classes, and dealing with constitutional issues on a daily basis, I think I know the Constitution fairly well.  I may not be able to recite it chapter and verse, but......

And where is your training?  moveon.org?

TXswimmer,
You have to stop watching these FOX News "legal analyst"! The Constitution is about Government not Citizens! That is the confusion that has been hatched in American Politics! Most would not Know the Constitution if it landed on their head!

Ya know...(And this is NOT a statement on religion)

When hubby and I got married *gasp* ten years ago, I was livid that his church REQUIRED we undergo premarital counseling and PASS a premarital class before we could be married.

"Who the hell do they think they are?"  I screamed.  But I did it, kicking and screaming all the way.  Know what?  It was the best thing we ever did for ourselves.  During these classes we were forced to deal with and discuss issues that I know for a fact many of our friends (for some ungodly reason) never bothered to address before marriage.

How many kids do we want?

How often do I expect to have sex?

What are my weaknesses in dealing with conflict?

In what manner do I handle my finances?  Who will handle the finances?

These are just a few of the many issues and questions we had to answer.  The subjects on which we disagreed (I wanted one kid, he wanted two), we either found compromises for or agreed to disagree.  This left very few surprises for either of us.  We knew what we were getting into when we said "I do".

Now I can't help but wonder if it would have helped any of my many newly-divorced friends.  Almost all of them divorced because of issues that they had not ever thought or bothered to discuss prior to getting married.

Us?  We're still kicking.  And as for the whole kid thing...  We ended up having three.  Go figure...

Oops, sorry to write a post here...

TX--
I feel your pain.  If we could only get rid of all those liberal reconstructionists, we could get back to the good old days of the 18th century.
