WHY DO YOU READ?

I am curious as to why people read (and respond) to certain blogs. Is it the headline? Is it the certainty of a thought provoking entryby a certain writer? Do you read certain blogs because (even though you know you will get pissed off) you want to see what "that moron" has to say now? Personally, I am very eclectic in my reading. Besides sports (which I just stick with a newspaper on), I like to read all kinds of stuff. I respond to those that strike a chord. I may just want to agree, and... Sign in to see full entry.

AFTER A LONG ABSENCE - A FEW COMMENTS ABOUT IDEOLOGUES

The ideologues are at it again - now on immigration. The Left complains that anyone who seeks a sensible immigration policy which includes reducing the number of illegal aliens currently in the country is nothing but a racist. The Right complains that the (mainly Mexican) illegal aliens in this country are responsible for most of the social ills plaguing the United States, and all pose a threat to national security. I live in Texas. We have more than our share of illegal immigrants.... Sign in to see full entry.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy new Year to all of the community! Common sense dictates that I will not follow most of the resolutions I have made. Though quite sincere, habit seems to trump resolve at every corner. Human nature, being what it is, favors the constant, rather than the change. Common sense also dictates, however, that the only true constant in life IS change. Unfortunately, the resistance to change causes everything from marital breakups to war. There is no law which demans that we like all change - God... Sign in to see full entry.

IT'S CHRISTMAS AND MY COMMON SENSE HAS GONE OUT THE WINDOW

Okay - I admit it - when it comes to the holidays, common sense flies out the window. When it's someone on my Christmas or Hanukkah list, I can't seem to resist one more lilttle thing. And, of course, I add to the list every year, rather than subtract. A charity calls, and I have to say yes. I can't pass by a Salvation Army kettle. I honestly don't think that, simply because I like to give a gift, that I have commercialized the season. I love to make people happy with little things that let them... Sign in to see full entry.

A KINDER, GENTLER, BLOGGER? ONLY FOR A MOMENT

I have just completed editing this blog. I got rid of posts that I didn't think were very well written, and some written in a "snit". Passion is a motivating force for expressing one's opinion, and passion can be put to good use in finding the words that will convey the thesis of a post with conviction. Of course, dispassionate discourse is always good for debate, but can be kind of boring to read. One may doubt the writer's conviction if he or she is too dispassionate. Anger, it seems, does... FOUR MORE STUPID CRIMINALS AND ONE STUPID LAWYER

You asked for it - you got it: #1 Idiot - I am prosecuting now - This guy had a common law wife that he had hooked on drugs. He used her as bait to lure 3 teenage boys (14, 14 and 16) to his house, where he subsequently injected them with methamphetamine, and had her sodomize all three with a huge "strap on". He stood by and watched, while wearing a black teddie. None of the boys remember much of what happened. Why is it a good case? The idiot videotaped it. Why his lawyer is an idiot? Well,... THE CASE FOR MARRIAGE AND CHILD LICENSES............

For those who claim to be "strict constructionists" on the Constitution of the United States - I would point out something about marriage and kids: The Constitution guarantees your right to neither! What?! What?! What?! you may ask. But, it's true. I challenge anyone to find it. Whoa, wait - you say. The fact of the matter is that the Constitution allows us freedom of speech, religion, and assembly. It guarantees us the right to remain silent, the right to a fair trial, and the right to counsel.... Sign in to see full entry.

THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE HAS BEEN SAVED IN TEXAS!

By a vote of 76% to 24% (with only Travis County - Austin rejecting the measure), the good people of the State of Texas have constitutionally banned gay marriage. Brintey Spears can have another 36 hour marriage, if she ever gets tired of Mr. Federline. Thank God Liz Taylor can marry again! Of course, every "sham marriage" between a gay man and a woman (or gay woman and a man - quite common in the Army) is held sacred. Is this common sense? Whether you like homosexuality or not isn't really the... Sign in to see full entry.

AND NOW FOR THE PERVERTED CRIMINAL MIND

Here are just a couple - And yes, true............. 1) A guy makes his 4 and a half year old daughter fellate him. Whn interviewed by the cops, he said that it all started out one day at the pool. His daughter came up to kiss him, and she slipped him the tongue. Now, the defendant didn't tell her that was not appropriate, what he said was, "don't kiss Daddy like that - he'll get in trouble". The poor guy - this little Lolita just pursued him and pursued him - finally, he gave in. According to... Sign in to see full entry.

Thank God I don't have to prosecute rocket scientists.............

Okay - we all love stories about stupid criminals - not only are they lacking in common sense, they are just dumb. Here are some I, personally, have run into as a prosecutor: 1. A woman is sentenced for a misdemeanor, with a modest fine. The judge asked if there was any legal reason to bar her sentence. The woman replied, "yeah, how am I gonna pay my fine when I live on welfare?". The judge replied, "lady, get a job". 2. A woman was being tried for terroristic threat. I had the victim on the...
