My mom says the same thing. She always leaves her keys in her purse and her purse in the same spot. She never locks her keys in her car, except twice. One time my brother was in the car with them, and the other it was (thankfully) just the keys. Both times, her routine had been altered, if only slightly. She has spouted the entirety of this post to me my whole life. You're not alone, Songbird!

I think it's the realization that we really DID make the mistake. It shakes our confidence in our abilities.
Usually, in a day or two, we can find some humor in what we've done, or we can correct the situation, and somehow we emerge better for having made the mistake.
We learn more from making mistakes than we do from doing things right.

Hey Songbird, you're so totally right! I can never decide what hurts worse, the dealing with the mistake or *gasp* realizing I MADE ONE! which i usually never ever do.

Well, I haven't left keys in the car yet. I've developed a habit of curling my fingers around the keys, consciously feeling them in my hand, before I lock the car door.
It helps a lot and I hope it always will.

Oh, Song, that was so funny! Not for you as it was happening, but later as you wrote you found the delicious humor and wrote it so well! I loved it! But NEVER LEFT YOUR KEYS? I carry AAA for just that reason!

Lol!
I've screwed up my checkbook many times! Luckily I'm very polite as well and managed to talk a business out of charging me the returned check fee once. That was a miracle!! Course now I feel obligated to give them lots of business. I've also locked my keys in my car, with the car running and the radio on. This happend in college and I didn't know it until I got out of class! Yes, I'm definitely a blonde.
