Writer, regarding your windfall prophecies

(that sounds like the title of an upcoming book of yours . . . .) anyway, I don't understand why the gas companies just don't decrease their percentage of profits a titch (Dutch term).  It would spare all of us the ghastly possibility of further increasing taxes .  So if they cut back on profitis by a 1/4 or 1/2 a percent (or less, even) everyone would save.  As it is, I agree with you entirely that 46 cents is far too much taxation already.

Thanks for stopping by!

Corbin, I'm jealous.  Isn't there something nice about that?  If you buy 10 gallons it will be less than 20 bucks?  maybe it's just me and my psyche, but I can't wait for the gas price in my area to descend to that level.

$2.87???? Justso, that's pathetic, but then I guess since you're in the south you're still heavily affected by the detritus of hurricanes, eh?  You poor dear!

Jo, there's a novel idea -- you Aussies are so danged smart! (and charitable, it would seem)

Slow~that's what people are! We are a lot like our politicians we don't act on anything until it is way late in the game before we change our ways. We love our big cars and homes too. I don't have either, but that is the trend of the wealthy and the aspiring to be wealthy.  It is still high here $2.87 or some such for the cheapest kind. Everything has been downhill with driving for me since they stopped pumping your gas, washing the windshield and checking the oil. Think we could get that back.

Not toooooo bad!

We have companies that pool their resources and offer us discounts on fuel

So $1.20 a litre (not gallon) AU become $1.10 after discount

I don't know how that translates

46 cents or so a gallon . . .
FOR TAXES ALONE!!!!!!!! And the liberals are upset about the oil companies making money on gas?

By the way, if my ravings about what will happen if the proposed windfall profits tax is approved turn out to be right, does that make me a windfall prophet?

Janes,
Yep, with our Bronco guzzling gas at 12 MPG, I'm glad I'm not buying it.

JanesOpinion,
I think we're still at about $2.60, down from $2.90, here in Seattle.  Still, it's a shock.

Ooooh, hey, even better!  You'll have to throw a party when it gets below $2.00.  I never thought that day would come again!!!

2.09--and dropping...

$2.60?  Ach, you poor thing!  I'm all for saving gas and relying less on the Middle East for our fuel and energy.  I'd like to stick a big old windmill on my lawn and trap some of the wind energy from off of Lake Michigan.  Think the city would mind?

I'd guess it's because people realize a shortage could easily happen?
I think it's still around $2.60 here, but I haven't been paying attention.
