This dictum concerning " Not taking the the law into your own hands" is valid, but only as long as society is prepared to protect the citizen. But when it will not, or cannot do so, then it simply leaves the citizen at the mercy of the wrongdoer.
It is in any case a wholly spurious argument, for in any civilized society, the law is, or should be, in every citizens hands.
The situation in Britain right now is utterly lunatic, with the assailant going free, and the one who defends himself being punished.
